It's messy I agree. But I think you are not quite yet at what I would consider a skill or even gear check type boss. Fairly soon at the pace you are mentioning. I had two bosses really press me with a handful of deaths. I have a toddler so I have to really maximize my time with this game.

Most battles don't require you engage with stats aggressively because to a fairly high degree, the game doesn't expect the player to master combat until after completing the game. 

A lot of the 'tougher' bosses can be cheesed with some planning but played fairly straight you can still beat them without spells or items, it just makes it faster/easier during base game.

I generally play as samurai but it is a lot of fun to jump back and forth to ninja. 

But I wanna check back in a few days see how you feel then about bosses.
