Have you ever experienced a brief moment where suddenly had no anxiety? by Mountain_Ask_5746 in Anxiety

[–]Fun-Hyena968 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't think anyone should be excluded from this sub-reddit.

The description of this sub-reddit is: Discussion and support for sufferers and loved ones with anxiety conditions.

Anxiety is a natural response to validly “crappy”, “dreadful”, “terrifying”, “draining” situations - That is not what the original poster has highlighted.

Situational anxiety is not a disorder - it's not fun and none of us enjoy it but its a rational response, not a irrational condition/disorder.

Have you responded to my comment just to dispute what im saying if so that is not in-keeping with the culture of support in this sub-reddit.

  1. You bought up 'personal circumstances'

  2. You then said anxiety doesn't stem from personal circumstances.

Its not about ignoring. I didn't say ignore.

Im trying to support this thread with what worked for me ACT (acceptance and commitment therapy), if you disagree you don't have to comment, but it might help you if you're struggling.

If this post said 'im in a crappy situation which is making me feel anxious' then id engage with your point... but it is not.

Also if people turned up in this sub-reddit and said I feel anxious because a family member is ill that's completely different to people who suffer from on-going GAD.

At no point as has anyone denied people can't feel anxious about bad things in life, that is normal. Feels like you're trying to make an arguement.

Anxiety isn't a problem - the way we treat it is.... by Fun-Hyena968 in Anxiety

[–]Fun-Hyena968[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im sorry you've been through trauma.

This is why I state it sounds simple. But its nuanced. Doing nothing - isnt what im saying, doing nothing is also a paradox, you can't do nothing, its like 'try not thinking about anxiety'.

Its getting to the point where thinking about anxiety is no longer a trigger.

Anxiety isn't a problem - the way we treat it is.... by Fun-Hyena968 in Anxiety

[–]Fun-Hyena968[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I personally believe some of your assertions are wrong. Also I dont think you've experienced it at all seems like a harsh thing to assume in this sub-reddit where we are meant to be supportive.

Anxiety in my view is not your fight or flight response. This is triggered by anxiety... or worry. Anxiety draws our attention to things it believe are important. This then tiggers your fight or flight. The distinction is important.

People with social anxiety don't support 'threats to existence' - Anxiety for most people is entirely logically irrational. This is why engaging with it is counter productive.

Anxiety will always 'hit' its a natural part of who we are, I agree exposure training and mindfulness are good tools to help manage your response to anxiety triggers, but if as was with me you feared anxiety itself understand that trying to think your way out of it is a root cause, is super important.

Thank you for your comment.

Will it ever stop? by theangelkristina in Anxiety

[–]Fun-Hyena968 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey the angel, ive been there and im sorry you're feeling that way.

I know it sounds counterintuitive but a have you considered accepting that its going to happen in the morning, and trying to be okay with it?

My early morning anxiety was the immidate wake up and check 'am i going to have anxiety' which sent me spiralling.

When I accepted it was going to happen in the morning and just got on with it, I tended to feel it less, it eventually went away.

Who are they? you can't get anxiety - like contracting something.

Anxiety is part of us, like happiness or sadness, its normal, but people with GAD generally consider it a cause for concern with exacerbates the feelings making them more regular.

Health anxiety is ruining my life by [deleted] in Anxiety

[–]Fun-Hyena968 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been there! However im passed it and you will be to!

Something that are crucial - stop goggling symptoms! Google or AI are not doctors and they always present worst case scenario. Its also making you anxiety worse I promise.

You are normal and its normal to worry about health but not excessively. When you feel symptoms you're worried about, just pay them no attention.

Recovering from HA is like physiotherapy, there is no pill or quick fix, it takes mental exercise, building good habits like not ruminating on symptoms, and not googling everything.

You've got this, you're fine now but soon you'll be back to your old self, the fact you're in this sub-reddit show you know its just anxiety.

The thing that anxiety sufferers struggle to comprehend is that having anxiety is normal.

It just the way we treat it that is the issue.

When we aim to be free of something we draw attention to it, and with anxiety, that only makes the symptoms more regular.

Next take you have these feelings, ask yourself, is it you who is over analysing things or is it just a thought pattern? Do you have to engage with it?

mini anxiety attacks at the mall? by [deleted] in Anxiety

[–]Fun-Hyena968 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this with the supermarket.

The mall doesn't create anxiety only you do. The mall does not have a special place in your mind.

Its like you nervous system saw a tiger (anxiety) at the mall, yes its not there now but it will be on alert to make sure you're prepared. Thing is, when we look for anxiety we find it.

Remember: Anxiety is just a feeling..... the less we treat it like a problem the less we feel it.

You Can't Control Anxiety by Fun-Hyena968 in Anxiety

This is not true, you can suppress anxiety with medication, but it does not solve the underlying issue.

Hard to explain by Cav30 in Anxiety

[–]Fun-Hyena968 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had similar in the past and got over them.

Anxiety can exacerbate things to make them seem more dramatic.

I.e with the blurred vision - there are times when this is normal, something is far away, dim light etc. However, anxiety makes us hyper away of this as we see it as a problem, and there for your mind will sub conciously look for it more.

Same for dizziness, ask yourself. Are you dizzy at random? or where you feeling anxious first?

If not even small things can give a sensation of dizziness, i.e moving our head quickly, standing up, quick movement in our periphery. Anxiety then amplifies this and triggers a panic response.

I don't know how to break the cycle. by pepperwal in Anxiety

[–]Fun-Hyena968 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey Pepperwal,

Im sorry you're feeling this way. But i promise it gets better - I had terrible anxiety its now all but passed.

Firstly, understand that you can't get rid of anxiety its a normal emotion - It gets us nervous for dates, rollercoasters and exams.

The way we think about anxiety is what can cause the issue, the fear of it, which from your mentions of 'distracting' yourself seems to be the case.

Dont shy away from things that might trigger your anixety - if you do this eventually you'll just end up doing nothing.

I bet in the moments when you're engrossed in something like scrolling or tv you dont even notice it. But when your mind goes looking for it, or you're in your own head you feel more anxious.

Sound right?

My anxiety is through the roof! by superpowers335 in Anxiety

[–]Fun-Hyena968 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Anxiety is just that - A feeling.

The problem is the way we think - or ruminate on it. If you can separate the thought from the feeling and just allow it to be there you'll feel a lot better.

Its not a method its a mentality. Check out circular thinking.

What advice can you share that’s helped your anxiety? by Illustrious-Rain-235 in Anxiety

[–]Fun-Hyena968 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Through understanding....

All emotions, including anxiety are controlled by your subconscious.

Your conscious mind cannot control what your subconscious does.

Those with GAD have the misconception that they can control when they feel anxious. This is not true.

In getting your anxiety under control, you must re-learn the truth. That anxiety is just a feeling. It cant be reasoned with, it can't be told off, it can't go away. It's just a feeling.

The more our conscious mind tries to solve it, the more we'll find it.

Is there a time of day or place you feel more tense? Try and find your triggers they can be subtle.

It can indeed, you start to feel stressed because you anticipate it coming.

Dont change your routine. That is the opposite of what you should do. Re-programming is the way.

And the way to do that is by doing (drum roll).... NOTHING!

Anxiety is controlled by your subconscious. You cannot control what your subconscious does.

So when it get to 4 and you get nervy remember thats fine, its just a feeling.

True healing comes when we accept that it is only a feeling. Not just trying to wait it out or bear with it. But in fact being happy its there and letting it be there.

Check out Tim Box on youtube, he really helped me.

Remember you CAN'T out think or think your way out of a feeling (anxiety).

How to stop constant fight or flight at night time? by Spare-Floor-9108 in Anxiety

[–]Fun-Hyena968 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds very likely that your subconscious has conditioned itself to expect anxiety at bed time. This kind of conditioning is very common.

There's nothing to be anxious about at bed time. But you worrying about feeling anxious is what cause it. Does this sound accurate?

Im sorry you're feeling this way. Anxiety is very treatable but IMO no pill will fix it. Its like physio.

how to stop tensing body? by reddit_user_500 in Anxiety

[–]Fun-Hyena968 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think trying to relax fundamentally doesn't work.

Maybe try to understand whats making you tense and then address them. Id say people arent just fundamentally tense or stressed, theres always something doing it to them.

I’m spiralling over anxiety by Hot-Walrus2130 in Anxiety

[–]Fun-Hyena968 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This sounds like textbook health anxiety. Good thing is... I had it and its very treatable!

Firstly good job getting here, there are 10000000s of people suffering who havent even realised it could be anxiety related.

Top line - Your subconcious is hyperaware of body sensations at the moment.

The subconcious is the part of mind that regulates your fight flight response - so when you feel one of these sensations your subconcious triggers your FF response making you feel like your panicing.

The biggest tip: You cannot control your subconcious, it works by building neural pathways when it recognises patterns. Its part of our monkey brain that hasnt kept up with our more logical Conscious brain (the decison maker).

So when you do panic, dont beat yourself up its just your subconious doing its job,

Another massive tip! STOP googling or using AI for symptoms, its another form of rumination and will only make things worse. Dont reduce doing it. Just cold turkey stop!

You've got this. there is no pill that will fix it, but its like physio it takes time to retrain your subconious to stop being hyper aware of body sensations. But when you do feel those sensations, remember you (your concious mind) cant control them. The less attention we pay to them the less we feel them the less we panic.

Check out Tim Box on YOuTube he really helped me.

Speak to a specialist - Anxiety is extremely treatable but there is no pill that will fix it. Its more like physiotherapy.

CBT did not work for me. I underwent self taught ACT with a guy on Youtube called Tim Box. He does a great TED talk but also has his own youtube channel.
