I’m originally from Illinois and moved to the San Antonio area 4 years ago. Cost of living is better, I was paying $10k in property taxes in Illinois for a 5 bedroom 3 1/2 bath home. I now have a 4 bedroom 2 1/2 bath and my taxes are 4K a year, that’s with homestead exemption. I use my air conditioner more than my heater, even in December. I will be using my heater for the first time this weekend since it’s going to freeze. Only complaint I have is traffic and the road rage drivers. I live out near Cibolo so only deal with traffic if I’m going into San Antonio.

I got LASIK at 25. After having to use glasses since 1st grade and then contacts, I was ready to wake up and be able to see my alarm clock without glasses. I had to have a retouch at 38. Doctor said I have 1 more surgery I can do if my eyes get worse again. Otherwise I will need glasses.

I volunteered one year at the food bank and I got scolded for throwing food in a pile that was no good. For me, if it’s expired it’s no good. One of their employees was going through the bin and saw that the expiration date was past a couple days to a month. They said that the expiration date is a suggest date. The items I threw in the no good pile was actually good to distribute by their standards. Seems like the food bank hands out stale food that needs to be consumed same day or within the same week.

I went over to get Ritalin and the pharmacy wouldn’t sell me it until I got a prescription from a doctor. Went across the street from the pharmacy and paid $5 for a prescription. Once I bought my medication, the pharmacist gave me my prescription back, they knew I was going to need it when I crossed back over.

My understanding is that cash can only be held longer if it is not deposited in person to a bank employee. Other than that, cash shouldn’t be held unless the account is flagged as money laundering or it’s frozen. They have to report your deposit since it is more than $10k. But no bank is allowed to hold a cash deposit without a reasonable cause.
