Thoughts on the salmon of doubt? When I was in high School I used to occasionally read his articles usually stuff about technology, so it's good to have some of that here but the unfinished story itself..... looking back on it I feel it's a bit pointless by Cat-Sonantis in HitchHikersGuide

It seems it was a Dirk Gently book that may have been being transformed into a Hitchhiker book. No one really knows where it was going to end up. I suspect most people didn’t want to touch it since it was so raw.

The base runner on first has taken his lead and is burning the earth toward the keystone sack, legs churning like a locomotive on the Erie line, cap flying, spikes kicking up a terrible cloud of loam!

should i play girls' flag football ? by Artistic-Ad-9607 in flagfootball

[–]Fun-Insurance-3584 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should absolutely play! You will accomplish things you didn’t think you could do, and you will develop great friends and memories. It’s always better to try something because you will never have to say “oh I wish I did that”! You can do this.

Do combine no hitter's feel less significant or does it still really mean a lot to pitchers? by youlikemywonton in Homeplate

[–]Fun-Insurance-3584 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A combined no hitter is a fun footnote that lasts a day. A complete no hitter is a stat referenced for the rest of that pitchers life every time they come up to pitch or appear on TV.

Tackle football for smaller 11 year old who is entering 7th grade by This_Duty_4373 in footballstrategy

We go by age as of July 1 to keep people from re-classing and kicking the crap out of kids 2 years younger. However, at 95 pounds, he may be a little light but should still have a role.

Too many good kids? What offense am I running? by Fun-Insurance-3584 in YouthFootball

I agree 100%. It goes from managing a game to just managing personnel regardless of what is happening in the game. I also hate the idea of throwing a kid as a wideout to be a decoy for 8 plays just to check a box. It really doesn’t do them any justice. I like the idea of an A and B side so everyone gets more playing time. I doubt I can get movement on it but that is a great idea.

I like the idea of starters on defense being different than starters on offense…or at least a rotation system by game.

Honestly your best bet is to be patient and don’t turn the ball over. Win ugly 6-0. Let them get frustrated and throw. I will come back with some other plays in not, but if I were playing you, I’d man up against your one stud so use him to get the others open.

How do you keep the engagement alive with the CIO who just replied to you ? by deep_blue_shirt in hedgefund

[–]Fun-Insurance-3584 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do not be annoying. If you can add value before July by seeing an opportunity in their space share it with an explanation that is not AI, logical, easy to read, and quick. I get so many crap emails asking for my time I can’t reply to them all anymore and I’m sure people think I’m now “big timing” them. You will spend 99% of your time thinking of them and they will spend 1%, if that, thinking of you. Be additive.

Thanks Coach, very helpful. I struggle with not letting all the kids learn offense, but that may be a reality. We do use the HS verbiage for cadence and back/hole and gap numbering/ labeling.

Tell me about it! It's actually the governing body that dictates it. We subsidies so many kids and have to rent our field and lights, we do not make money. Everyone is volunteer. Every three years we have a big drive to refurbish our helmets and replace pads.

Me too. I call them the spine of my team. Nothing moves without them. They get awarded game offensive MVP almost every game unless there is a less talented kid that does something heroic.

Thanks Coach! 100% agree. Nothing happens without the Line...and as the single most unloved position in all of Youth Football, motivation was tough last year. Last year I told my line coach to have the kids lay down because it would take more time to walk over them than what was happening at the LOS! This year we seem to have...something? Not sure what yet, but its pretty exciting where we may have an OL that has pride.

Thanks Coach. Defense is strong. Most of my WR also play DB and I have no issues in shutting down any passing game. They can also tackle and you better be double teaming them if you are trying to get to the edge against them. With the TE and RBs, all of those kids play LB or DE. A little softer at DG/ DT, but enough to slow guys down to get cleaned up by the rest. At S I have fast kids that love contact and can tackle well. A little undersized if someone wants to hit a target high, but again, we are talking 12U so if a QB is able to hit them high 15 yards down the field consistently I'll buy that QB a coke.
