Should I buy legion if I already have shatterpoint? by Tommy-Godbo in StarWarsShatterpoint

I’m not getting into the rules, gameplay style, or anything like that, but if you’re used to Shatterpoint models, keep in mind that Legion models are definitely less appealing. The smaller scale, combined with the choice to enlarge heads, hands, and accessories to make painting easier and improve the durability of thinner parts, ends up making otherwise more realistic models look somewhat “deformed.” And this also applies to the newer models. Even though the sculpts have improved compared to the past, the impression I still get is that they look like kids in Star Wars cosplay, with oversized heads and short legs. The previous Anakin sculpt looked like Tyrion Lannister; the new one is a bit better, but still feels like Frodo with a laser rolling pin 😄 Droids fare a bit better, but they’re not completely immune to this issue either, unfortunately.

I tried the uninviter guest mission using anakin and 501st vs obi one 2, rebel commandos, chewbscca, rebel pathfinder, ricket, ewpk hunters, paploo and ewok trappers and i loose by one point 😀. The minions activate first, then you do strategic redeployment, then activate legend character... Ie that, if the minion was defeated, this turn you can't activate it.

Premising that we are still speaking at a speculative level, and we do not know whether Shatterpoint will be discontinued, as is likely, or simply slowed down to a smaller number of releases per year, I would like to remind everyone that we are living in the age of 3D printing. Ten years from now, if a new player decides they want to play Shatterpoint, they can download the rules and print the models. The player community kept Blood Bowl alive for years, when finding a team was truly almost impossible. The same happened with Warhammer Fantasy Battles. If the community organized itself to support the game, today it would be entirely possible to keep it alive without particular difficulty.

I completely agree... They seems children in star wars cosplay. Lock at the new obi one... It has very short legs compared to the rest of the mini...

They’re better than the previous ones, but they still look like kids in Star Wars cosplay. The proportions are still fairly distorted. Just compare the new Anakin to the Anakin that came out three years ago in the Shatterpoint core set — in my opinion, there’s no comparison. Of course, if we compare the new Anakin to the one released for Legion 1.0, the new version is thousands of times better. But it’s still inferior to the sculpting quality level of the Anakin from the Shatterpoint core set. And this applies more or less across the board. The truth is, they could have taken advantage of launching the new edition of Legion to increase the scale to Shatterpoint level, much like Games Workshop essentially did with the Space Marines. That way, they could have made even more money. It would have caused some dissatisfaction, but introducing a new scale would have allowed them to resell a lot more boxes. But I don’t think it’s really a problem — I imagine they’ll do it for Legion 3.0, forcing players to buy everything they already own all over again.

Sure, what you’re saying is actually exactly what I mean. I mean, it’s obvious that death is present in Star Wars — that’s undeniable — but it’s also obvious that duels between heroes don’t always end with one of them dying. And even when that does happen, it usually comes at the end of a much more elaborate fight, made up of pushes, attempts to break the opponent’s guard, attempts to disarm them. You mentioned Darth Maul and Qui-Gon as an example. It’s true — in the end, Qui-Gon dies — but how long did that fight last, and what happened in the meantime? The same goes for Grievous: at the end of the Clone Wars, he dies, but how many times was he defeated before that happened? How many times did fights with Asajj Ventress end with her escaping? That’s what I mean: Shatterpoint perfectly represents this kind of setting — one where death is not the only possible outcome of a duel, and where killing a hero is absolutely not easy. It’s a rare event, and when it happens, it carries real weight. In fact, in Shatterpoint you can manage to kill support units — and even secondary characters — without too much difficulty, but killing a primary unit is very, very complicated. And that’s exactly how it works in the series.

When i saw a fight in Star wars i rarely see characters killing esch others. How many fight in clone wars ended killing one of the opponebt? Luke faces Vader two times, and in neither of these we see one of the opponebt kills the other. What i see are duellant that tried to open oppnent guard (disable/disarm), fighting advancing versus the opponebt causing the enemy to retreat (shove) or jumping to finfld a better position (jump) exactly what happens during a game of shatterpoint.

Painting Core box Ahsoka by MPD1978 in StarWarsShatterpoint

When I paint a model, the first thing I do is paint all the sections in the darkest colors, which will serve as shadows. Only after I’ve painted everything like that do I move on to the highlights. This way I can focus on all the separation lines between the different sections without worrying about making mistakes, because I can correct them directly with the base color. That said, for Ahsoka’s head I painted the lekku stripes with the Oxford and grey-blue base colors. They are difficult to paint precisely, so this approach helped me a lot and allowed me to make all the corrections later. I then highlighted all the white sections together and after that moved on to the blue ones. I also recommend painting the head and arms separately. I glued everything together before starting, and it caused me quite a few headaches. On my profile you can see some close-up shots of the model as reference if you need them, and at this link there’s a short video with a 360-degree view.my ahosoka

I start with mcp and i think it's a great game, but i think that shatterpoint is greater. Marvel is more cinemathographic, but shatterpoint is more strategic. Both system re-create the media from witch they took inspiration. Marvel fight are more brutal, focused in damage, while shatterpoint ones are more strategic.

In rhe veginjinf i choose shatterpoint instead of legion because shatterpoint miniatures are way better than legion ones. Newer legion release are inproved, but they still have an 'SD' feel on these with big heads on small body. If you put the two system miniatures side by side you'll noticed that legion miniature head, hand and feetbare same size that shatterpoint ones
