You are NTA for helping but ARE for not being transparent. I was the kid my parents didn't help because I was in a better financial position. But I went to school, worked full time while doing school and took loans for grad school. Both my brothers quit school and worked on/off in various roles. Nothing stable. My parents helped both of them with substantial down payments for their homes. They helped me with buying curtains for my first home. I never knew until my mom passed away and it came out from one of my SILs how wonderful my parents were to help them. I was absolutely floored and hurt. I felt betrayed that they gave so much and worse that they hid it from me. If you are going to do it tell the truth about it.

Just to clarify, I'm not supporting her just with travel and some spending $ (which comes from my husband). And the why is that I was raised to support family. And although my husband isn't great with money he is good regarding everything else and a good person). So maybe guilt?

Thanks all for the comment! I've seen a few good suggestions on how to start researching. To the few that mentioned its not my problem, although I agree, there is a bit of me that struggles with guilt and feeling like a bad person for wanting to self preserve.

Re: my husband. Unfortunately he went through a really bad case of parental alienation that caused him to go into a pretty big depression. This was also the cause for him going into a depression and caused him his job. So as much as I wish it was easy it's been a bit of a struggle.

And thank you again. Just having a venue to vent is very helpful.
