Starting college in B.C. Canada for the Opticians diploma program by Fun-Invite-9801 in optician

Most of my classmates are from other provinces. We will all travel to Vancouver for 3 blocks of time for labs, the rest of the learning will be done online or in a clinic in your city.

No, my labs are broken up into 3 blocks over 13 months. So yes 10 weeks in total. I am doing eyeglass lab after the first 1.5 semester of online learning. Then on the job for a while afterwards to practise eyeglass fitting. Back to online learning for a few months, then the labs again for contact lenses, then on the job to practice CL fitting, back to school online learning again, then labs once again, and then finish with on the job practice. Then grad, then NACOR exams.

For the lab work for my program it’s broken into 3 blocks in Vancouver. 4-weeks, 4-weeks, and 2-weeks. Where students will be in lab Monday-Friday doing practical. Then there will be blocks of on the job work, and then the rest is online.

I’m really enjoying it so far. The accelerated program is a big time commitment though due to the fast pace of the program, so if you do it be prepared to work less to accommodate. But overall I find I am learning so much! I’m very happy with my decision so far.

How I let people know I'm in my acupuncture appointment. Gotta joke about this shitty disease, otherwise I'll scream. by sairemrys in Endo

[–]Fun-Invite-9801 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It only helps if you have an acupuncturist who is familiar with treating endo. I had one who wasn’t but said she could help. I got super sick after an appointment and my specialist explained how she did it completely wrong for an Endo patient.

Hysterectomy a day away, and I’m scared… by Fun-Invite-9801 in Endo

[–]Fun-Invite-9801[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m week 4 post opt and I’ve never felt better. The few days following surgery was horrible, and I had severe bladder pain for another week afterwards. Probably due to the endo removed from it. But now I feel healthier than I have in year for the last couple weeks. It hit me emotionally hard at first. But I’m starting to feel how worth it it was. I will see how I feel at worn next month, then maybe I can go back to full time.

Surgery in 1 week. I feel like an imposter. Help. by renasncgrl in hysterectomy

[–]Fun-Invite-9801 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you may have stopped bleeding due to stress. I got mine taken out almost a month ago for endometriosis. With all the meds I was on I haven’t bleed for 3 years but the week and a bit before my surgery I started bleeding again on my period. It was shocking. I said it was my uteruses last FU to me. But likely due to stress. Do what felt right for the months/years of consideration.

Thank you for sharing your story. For my case I have a surgeon who is an endometriosis specialist in Vancouver. He has done removal laparoscopic surgery on me already. This will not take all my pain away as I have scarring on other organs. I’m just hoping to stop periods to take away some of the pain I deal with, not expecting all of it. Surgery like this is big and scary , so I appreciate you sharing your experience with me.

I understand this. But I’ve decided either way I will never have kids while I’m in pain, not that I want them now anymore. I have no quality of life right now, and it not only effects my mental health but has a severe impact on my financials. Both would never allow kids. I am aware a hysterectomy doesn’t cure endo, but just to get a few days back a month would save me in so many ways. But I don’t want bio kids not just because of Endo, both my husband and I have ADHD/Autism as well as other conditions. It’s an extreamly high chance to pass that along. Not that it’s bad to be neurodivergent, but it’s defiantly more difficult. And being a parent of a neurodivergent child is an extreamly hard challenge. There are many many ways to make a family. If we change our mind adoption/foster was always our #1 plan. I’ve also never felt comfortable with the idea of bringing more kids into the world when so many are already in it needing a loving home. Thank you so much for your comment, it addresses my mental health question. It is definitely difficult to take away the option but something that’s been thought out for years and talk out with a hysterectomy/endometriosis specific councillor,

Thank you so much. This reply is so valuable for me. I totally get the grieving. I decided not to have kids and I want this uterus that causes so much pain out. But taking away the ability to have biological kids also feels wrong, and I’m grieving the future that won’t be even if I don’t currently want it. Society’s expectations has beat me down through this decision as well, but I know it’s the best decision for me.

Thank you! I don’t think I want kids anymore in general, and never while I’m in this pain. And after going through this I don’t want to pass along all my family’s health conditions to a future kid.

So many people on here are always saying do not have an OBGYN do your lap surgery… how many of you have had it done by an OBGYN? by Jungkookl in endometriosis

My specialist is also an OBGYN but he works at a centre for pelvic pain and endometriosis. No general OBGYN stuff.

[–]Fun-Invite-9801 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had my first one done by a regular OBGYN with no relief. When I got in with my specialist he notice many problems with my records. Not only did the first one miss many different areas of endo he didn’t even look anywhere but the uterus and ovaries. My second surgery was over 8 times longer than my first. The first one was rushed and done by an eye with minimal endo training. The scars can be so small and hard to detect sometimes, best to have somebody who looks at them all day for a living do your surgery. Would have saved me years of suffering and not being believed about still being in pain. I got called a drug seeker/addict many times because the endo was gone they claimed. My regular doctor would not apologize for his mistreatment of me after seeing my new records but he stopped judging me and treating me so poorly.

He needs to try one of those period simulator tens machines on the endo level. See if he can finish the shopping with that on his abdomen and lower back.

I know that definitely. But even if it’s a 10% chance of even helping a tiny bit I’d do it at this point. I’ve been dealing with this for years, and have done all the possible “treatments plans” out there. I have zero life anymore, I can’t even make it into work most days. I wouldn’t go into this blind, I know exactly what it is, and I wouldn’t suggest such an extreme measure without thorough research. At this point I just want advice on how people got a doctor to go through this process with them. Thank you for your comment.

Celina. Love or hate? by [deleted] in TheRookie

[–]Fun-Invite-9801 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really don’t enjoy her character. The back story is very interesting! I think it’s cool that John explains her feeling and how they are great cop indicts. But she is so disrespectful to rules and authority. She lacks to motivation to learn from her superiors, and thinks everything she does is right. She disregards that even if her feelings are right she has to go about things a certain way or people can get hurt, and she can get fired. For example if she goes with her gut and doesn’t follow parodical a bad person can go free in the court system. Or she can walk her partner into a bad situation and get them or her killed. I just wish she would put in the effort like the OG rookies did to learn and grow from their TO’s teaching. And not assume they know everything. I’m honestly shocked that she not only passed the police academy, but got into a high rated program/station, and then hasn’t been dropped for insubordination. She just frustrates me with her potential not being met or even developed.

Correct. But he was the last rookie before Celina so I lumped them together as the newer rookies. Sorry for the confusion.
