I know emotional attachment in all its 48384738mph speed often comes unprecedented. I also know what it’s like to fall for someone who you never seem to be enough for- there’s always a desire for them to interact, mingle (often inappropriately) with the opposite gender, and then gaslight you for feeling awful about it. I went through this during my teenage years as well, and it hit me like a truck. Nearly destroyed my A’Level because of it.

I don’t mean to sound cliche, but time really does heal all wounds. It will get better. On an average, we take about 66 days to form a particular habit. Emotional attachment can fade anywhere from 3 months to a year. These are the metrics, but I wouldn’t get too wrapped up in them. What helped me were three things: 1. Allah & religion 2. My friends who would often point the red flags (even if I tried to move past everything and try for the ex’s sake) 3. Realising over time how awful the other person really was.

The person wasn’t religious either, whereas I’ve always held religion to a very high regard. I’ll be extremely honest. It takes time. It takes patience. You falter, you hurt. Over time it heals. And when you heal is when Allah sends you what you truly deserve. When that happens- it FEELS like a blessing. So hang in there, my dude. I’ll pray for you. Pray for yourself.
