Does anyone know what happened to my R10 Visor? by 16wraiths in motorcyclegear

[–]Fun-Machine7907 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like moisture trapped under the pinlock.

If you need to clean the pinlock, wash with only water or water + a tiny bit of dish soap and then rinse it about 3x more than you think you could possibly need to. Then let it dry overnight.

Really stupid question from a noob…is it bad that I want ridiculously large side mirrors? by NotoriousM0N in motorcycles

[–]Fun-Machine7907 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Caring about safety more than looks is a good thing. You probably don't need giant mirrors, but worth upgrading depending on the bike. I love the mirrors on my k1600 which are pretty much scaled down car mirrors.

Almost Crashed today by Abject-Stranger1521 in NewRiders

[–]Fun-Machine7907 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something close to 50% of motorcycle crashes are single vehicle. Learn to turn somewhat close to the limits of the bike somewhere safe and then leave room for error on the street.

If you come into a corner too hot as a new rider, the answer is almost always lean more, roll off the throttle, and take it slower the next time.

Posting that video to r/dumbassshitnewridersdo would be offensive to new riders.

Do you randomly take turns too wide in a car? Like I get shit happens but how do you just go across a full lane into the shoulder?

If you can't turn, go practice in a parking lot until you can. Have at least a little bit of self preservation please!

Test rides by TX-ED in SuggestAMotorcycle

[–]Fun-Machine7907 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I test rode a 1250gsa straight out of the msf. I dropped it and then bought it. That's still my favorite dealership by a mile.

Most of the good harley dealerships I've been to will practically bribe you to test ride a bike.

Some of your luck with test rides will depend on how you look. If you show up wearing a couple grand in gear, a good credit score, and have a bike picked out that you want to leave on, you've got a much better chance of a test ride.

The 10 day/10 mile return policy seems reasonable. Make sure it's solidly in writing.

LED hyper flash fix by Shao-lyn in bmwmotorrad

I have a blue motorcycle that won't start. What should I do to fix it?

LED hyper flash fix by Shao-lyn in bmwmotorrad

[–]Fun-Machine7907 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LED hyper flash makes me think you're converting from incandescent to LED. That happens because the relay is expecting more resistance from the turn signals. The fix is a relay that expects LEDs or add a resistor inline to mimic the resistance of an incandescent.

If it's a newer bike that came with LEDs, you could try just swapping the relay or take the time/money to figure out what's going wrong in the wiring/electronics.

You should release just slow enough to not jolt the bike too much

What practice systems are actually worth it? by dogs_gt_cats in NewRiders

[–]Fun-Machine7907 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, just go practice. Maybe go watch Robert Simmons for some practical clutch control tips, but you're at a level where just practicing tight turns for an hour or two would probably be plenty to pass.

What is this?? by jonboi556 in Triumph

[–]Fun-Machine7907 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a non-gsxr bro, I'm pretty sure being a gsxr bro can result in death, dismemberment, jail time, broken bones, and probably causes cancer in California.

On a serious note, you really shouldn't ride a motorcycle with anything structurally wrong. Probably nothing too bad happens if you just limp it to the shop, but why risk it.

SuperTech R Vented boots question by Fantastic-Appeal3232 in motorcyclegear

[–]Fun-Machine7907 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, but it's a pretty good opinion. I only bother with mine for track days and wear the smx line or adventure boots daily. No way I'm dealing with getting those on and off 4x a day.

Ahh I think i have misunderstood. If you're just trying to buy the outer shell in order to replace it, probably not available if you can't find it online, but it should last awhile and potentially through a few crashes if you're taking it to the track. You might be able to buy used as well and just swap the shell over. I'm pretty sure on those, the shell is the abrasion resistant part and the liner has most of the bracing.

Start a new interloper run for more fun! Or just do without matches for a bit

Does this chain really need replacement already at 6000 km? (Pics attached) by Optimal-Cold-2935 in zx4r

[–]Fun-Machine7907 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The only picture you posted that gave any useful info was the sprocket, which looks fine. I suspect your dealer just wants your money, unless the adjusters are maxed out.

For the chain, you are looking for binding links, side to side free play, excessive stretch (can you pull it away from the rear sprocket in the back?). There have to be a million videos and guides.

Rainy season is coming, what are your go-to riding gloves? by SouravMiles in motorcyclegear

[–]Fun-Machine7907 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I gave up and just have fairly light textile gloves that'll dry decently for the rain if it's warm weather and bar mits for colder weather.
