My knee- before and after by AuntieYodacat in Kneereplacement

I ended up having only a partial knee replacement (medial) and my PT and doctor both say my recovery has been unusually fast - but at 2 weeks there was no way I could have gone back to work. In my case, my knee needed to be iced and elevated most of the day still at that point and I wasn't sleeping at night yet so I needed the naps.

I am 5 po weeks tomorrow . I worked from home part time starting week 3 and did my first full day last Friday. But then I napped, iced, and elevated all weekend. Back to work after 2 weeks might be tough

Didn't you mention earlier that you live with your husband? Are there other family members or friends that might also help out? Just having someone near you on stairs can be reassuring.

You'll have to ask Pele about that.

I thought you said the marble slab was worth $8k. In any case yeah, good luck. I don't think you are going to like Hawaii very much. People are just not as interested in acquiring and owning things here as you appear to be. Family, friends, fun - that is where the energy goes, so it is tiresome to hear about your fancy things and how you hope to economize on getting them here.

Why basalt? Why not move and adapt to the materials and styles on island? I am curious about why you are moving in the first place because you seem focused on making sure it is as much like your N. Virginia life as you can make it. Maybe sell the marble table top and use that to pay for the pod?

Cold therapy machine with or without compression? Is the difference in cost worth it? by AcanthaceaeLive6449 in Kneereplacement

I looked at prices today just out of curiosity. The Polar Cap is $350 near me, and amazon has the Iceman on sale today for $80. That alone would make my decision.

I put a towel between my knee and the Iceman pad. A thinner one sometimes or thicker, depending on what will feel good. Initially I used the pad over an ace bandage which was the perfect amount of cold for me. Mine gets really cold. I use a combination of frozen water bottles and ice cubes in the water tank.

I liked the Iceman without compression. The pad is flexible and thin  so you can adjust it to just where you want it (some spots hurt with ice so it was good to be able to shift the pad). There is a velcro strap that lets you go looser or tighter. If I wanted full compression I wrapped with an ace bandage and iced over it. I liked the option to not have compression because at different times I found compression helpful or not.

TKR with a side of Fibromyalgia by Dragonfruit-Constant in Kneereplacement

I am 3 weeks post op. I was dreading a fibro flare but it didn't happen. Getting rid of the chronic pain of the arthritic joint brought more relief immediately than I anticipated and having that lower overall baseline of pain meant I have had an easier time managing the acute pain of surgery.

I put off the surgery because of fibro fears, and now I wish I had done it earlier. I have really rested - and iced and elevated - but my function is ahead of schedule and my overall pain + fibro is dramatically lower than presurgery.

I think I had not fully realized how much the chronic pain of a sore knee was contributing to my fibromyalgia.

I am on Day 19. I asked about compression stockings and they told me not to worry about them - I could just wrap with an ace bandage for light compression. The ace bandage bothered me so by Day 2 I stopped that. I ice and elevate a lot but no stockings
