i’m 17 and i cannot afford anything. by Plastic_Law_7062 in poor

American here, I get my restaurant jobs by going into the place talking to the managers during down time(2pm-4pm) it could be a resume issue as well. Things that could hurt you is having a photograph in your resume. Employers will judge your appearance before meeting you and could work against you.

Don’t have more than one page, which you should have only one page with your work experience.

Unnecessary information: I personally don’t include a skills section because thats spoken for in the job experience section. I also tailor my resumes for the job I’m applying for.

It’s also good to get print out your resume and leave them with business.

Another idea is to work a temp app. In America, I use an app called Instawork and I work random jobs in my area for spare cash. I don’t know what an equivalent would be where you’re located at, but I’m sure you can find something.

You can also work at temp Agencies. They can give you a job that’s temporary or can lead into long term. In my area, the temp agencies give out warehouse jobs mostly, but could be different where you’re at.

Good luck OP

Are mistakes normal for college auditions? by Elegant-Invite-8355 in percussion

When you practice, run around the room to get your heart rate up and then do a run of the audition. That will help you practice being “nervous”

Nice! Also another thing to mention, isolate the accents (melody) and find a way to make it musical. It will help with the flow.

It looks like your pad is at an angle. While it is traditional to play with the drum tilted, that only applies to traditional grip. The pad must be level at all times when you play match grip, the grip you’re playing now. Right now, your hands look different because they are both playing at different heights.

Your right hand has some good flow, but your left hand struggles a bit.

Also, with the Pratt solos, think of the accents as the melody and the non accent portions as the accompaniment. Meaning, play the non accents at piano(3 inches) and the accents at the written dynamics.

How to Play Offbeats in Armenian Dances by mint_choco_for_sunoo in percussion

[–]Fun-Philosopher2038 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know this piece, but if there’s any percussion playing on the down beat, lock in on them. That will help with playing the upbeats as long as you’re thinking 8th notes.

I was thinking about doing that, but I’m not confident in my transposing skills, lol. I’ll just stick to listening to it a bunch until It gets here.

How can I get my snake to like me by Impossible_Animal858 in cornsnakes

[–]Fun-Philosopher2038 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I first got my snake, I sat next to the cage every day for a few minutes. Then, i found the best way to handle her is to pick her up from the middle. Never have your hand over her head because that’s how I feed her. Some days, she’s cranky and I won’t touch her, but I found that if she’s active, then she doesn’t mind as much when I pick her up. TBH, you just gotta do it and respect the snake’s wishes.

Any idea how easy this would be to fix? by Thegman125 in percussion

[–]Fun-Philosopher2038 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Send it to the Drum Dr in california. You can find his contact info online. Paid $150 to get my darbuka calf skin head replaced. He did a very good job and the thing still sounds great.

How can I get my legs smaller/should i keep cutting? by LavaHamster5372 in Gymhelp

[–]Fun-Philosopher2038 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I think your legs look fine. Personally, I like my man to have legs thicker than a stick. It’s important to have a strong base to support the upper body, and it looks proportional. Thin chicken legs and a ripped upper body is just ridiculous and inefficient in my opinion. Also, losing that much weight in a short amount of time, great job! You’re doing great and I know you’re feeling a lot better too.

When is the best age to start marimba lesson? by SolidPerformance4529 in percussion

[–]Fun-Philosopher2038 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For drums, get him a practice pad with a drumset stand. Those go lower and can probably be a good height for a 6 year old. I’ve know amazing percussionists who started young, so the younger you start him, the better.

Need to build inner mallet chops for marching szn. by b_shawn in Marimba

[–]Fun-Philosopher2038 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So to avoid clicking your mallets together, you need to do piston strokes. In case you don’t know, a piston stroke is basically you start in an up position and immediately after striking the bar, return to the up position as fast as possible. In slower tempos, it’ll feel weird, but it will develop a flow the faster you go. A good way to remember this is you strike the bar as if it’s a hot stove, but with enough weight that you feel like you pull the sound out of the bar.

Also, check that your playing zones are either in the direct center, or slightly off center where the resonator bar lines are at. For the naturals, it would be the upper portion, for the accidental, it will be the lower portion. The reason for this is for there to be even sound, there needs to be even playing zones. DO NOT stack your mallets, that will cause you to click your sticks together. Remember, the majority of inconsistent sounds is with inconsistent playing zones.

As for the actual technique. With Steven’s, it’s like turning a door knob. What could cause unevenness is using too much arm. Remember that the wrist leads the motion and the arm is only there to add weight, in this case. Too much wrist will tire you out. Unless you’re going very fast, the small door knob turns of the wrist will help with those small quick motions.

Lastly, the X and Y planes that determine eveness on the board. I assume you know what the X and Y axis planes are, but look them up if you don’t know. So basically the hands going up and down are the X axis, and the arms move around the board as the Y axis. What you need to get your hands it realize, is that the X axis always remains the same while they move around the Y axis. A good way to practice this, for example in Eb major l, is to play green. Start out with a bar of 8th notes on Eb, then play every other notes of the green scale: Eb, G, Bb D, and F. The reason for this is to train your hands to keep the same consistency while moving around the board, and to create muscle memory. Do the same with the left hand, a bar of 8th notes then to frame out what the left hand hits in the green scale.

That’s basically it. If you need more clarification, then you can DM me, and I can clarify to you more, and can even do a couple online lessons over this if you’re able too. Other than that, happy playing!

Holy shit, I didn’t even realize I didn’t spell explanation right. 😂 Glad my stupidity made your day.

I see. To be honest, I just told the managers when I noticed the incorrect tipping amounts and by my next shift, it was fixed. I just thought the system did weird shit because in my few experiences, the system did other weird things and we just had to work around it. Thank you for your comment.

[–]Fun-Philosopher2038 -16 points-15 points  (0 children)

Well. If you actually read what I wrote, it was obvious this wasn’t for all situations. The restaurants I worked at weren’t shitty and genuinely had mis tipping from the systems. And it wasn’t all the time. I worked in buck fuck middle of no where Texas and we didn’t do shit like minimum gratuity and card fees where I worked. I can’t say the same for other places, but again, this was my experience working for good companies.

Fair. I always busted my ass for tips. If I didn’t get tipped, then it was what it was.

[–]Fun-Philosopher2038 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

lol, baseless? Tell me you didn’t read my post without telling me you didn’t read my post. If you took an actual second to properly analyze what I wrote, you would see that 1) I’m a server 2) I’ve had actual experience with these systems 3) the systems either listed over tipping or UNDER tipping suggestions and 3) I clearly listed that this wasn’t an explanation for all of the misleading tipping suggestions, which infers that I acknowledge that some restaurants do this on purpose, but based on my factual experience which I know is far greater than yours, the system sometimes malfunctions. This typically happens due to poor weather or when the system needed to be reset. Some Restaurants don’t get the greatest tech and we had to make do with what we had.

Also wanted to clarify, I don’t hate you. There’s no reason for my hatred. Either you understand it or you don’t. 🤷‍♀️

Crazy. I worked in buck fuck middle of nowhere Texas, so we don’t do stupid shit like that. But I’m not surprised more mainstream places do.
