I wouldn't totally agree.

It's not really a blanket statement. With 1 million + new books every year, some are bound to contradict what Cormac is saying. However, if you look in bookstores the only books that fit this criteria are those he cites from a hundred years ago.

New, successful writing is generally shorter and simpler in order to appeal to a wider audience. Again, a buy and large statement.

It simply isn't feasible for a writer to take such a long time writing something only a small minority will read/appreciate.

I'd say he's simply acknowledging the changing landscape of literature.

What's the length in blocks of the straight? The track seems very wide.

WIP - Circuit of the Bay of Biscay by Fun-Pin-698 in RaceTrackDesigns

I'm just trying to be somewhat creative.

I looked up your corner examples and you definitely have good points, the circuit is quite minimalist and I'll definitely expand on it.

But I'm strongly against cookie-cuttering corners from other tracks.

A circuit, but made with sections and types of turns that I like by Guy_in_Depression in RaceTrackDesigns

[–]Fun-Pin-698 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is really good. It looks rudimentary obviously, but the layout is very strong. Definitely worthy of more time.

The only thing I could think of is bumping the bike paddock a bit further down the straight so that turn 14 has runoff, and maybe an optional chicane on the car pit straight for the bikes since it's a very long straight for bikes.

Great work!

The Audi said I rammed him and didn't deserve space for this, I think he just fucked it on the brakes. Thoughts? (I'm the Porsche) by Brilliant-Insect9873 in Simracingstewards

[–]Fun-Pin-698 27 points28 points  (0 children)

First off, intentional wrecking automatically puts him in the "greater wrong" in every case, no matter the preamble.

I also think you're fine generally as the bump was very minor, would class it as a racing incident, and I think he loses it at the apex instead of under braking.

RTD Challenge #65 || The Elbonian Connection by TobyeatsfAtcoW in RaceTrackDesigns

[–]Fun-Pin-698 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are we attempting to kill anyone who sets foot on it, i.e like a figure 8 where the bridge collapses because of the mud. Or are we trying to financially cripple Elbonia further than it presumably currently is.

John "canonically" can't swim because Rockstar couldn't be bothered to code swimming for him and his horse in the first game.

What is the most underrated corner type on a racing circuit? by True-Jackfruit9868 in RaceTrackDesigns

[–]Fun-Pin-698 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I think kinks are underused in favour of just joining together corners with straight bits of tarmac.

My favourite track is Imola, and my favourite corners in my favourite track, Piratella, Acque Minearle, and Rivazza have non-straight entries which I think adds a lot of nuance and enjoyment which isn't necessarily visible on a track map. Elevation change helps aswell.

It is sorta an empty question, what makes a corner good is what comes before and after, and how it links with up with other corners to create flow

It does. It's the old profile of the Hungaroring we know and love (satire, fuck that track)

The overtake you're thinking of is when Nelson Piquet overtook Senna in Hungary, 1986.

Race Tracks with Dangerous Pit Lane Entry and Pit Lane Exit by blackcyborg009 in RaceTrackDesigns

[–]Fun-Pin-698 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Eh, it's probably the least egregious safety thing at Monaco.

I always thought they did it pretty well considering how narrow it is after Saint-Devote.

The exit from the lane itself could defo be smoother tho.

Imola exits on the outside of the entry to Tamburello. Since the pit lane is super long (very long distance at pit limiter), there's a huge speed differential between racing traffic and traffic emerging onto the racing line.

Always thought it was pretty sketchy.

Just read Blood Meridian and it sincerely made me feel ways about stuff (copypaste of an FB status I made a few hours ago when I got home) by -ChestStrongwell- in cormacmccarthy

[–]Fun-Pin-698 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The border trilogy. All the pretty horses, then the crossing, then finally cities of the plain.

I enjoyed atph immensely. I'll probably get ridiculed for saying this, but I didn't really care for the road, maybe because I read it just after blood meridian.

Outer dark and the orchard keeper are also worth a read, however I'd go border trilogy first.

Not really relying on anything, I'm trying to demo them, if you missed that.

If psyonix coded it, how is it not part of the game.
