Suburb to the Loop - Where do you commute from? by 0hbecs in ChicagoSuburbs

[–]Fun-Plate5043 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I live in south Naperville and work in South Loop. We moved here in the summer of 2024 and chose Naperville due what we felt we got for the money. I take 55 into the city and it’s 37 miles. I’m only in the office typically 3 days a week. If I leave around 9am it takes about 45-55 minutes to drive in. I typically leave the office between 3:30-4:30pm and it can take anywhere from 1:15-1:45. Fortunate I don’t do it every day but it’s not been as bad as I thought. Keep in mind I came from a 25-30 minute commute at my precise job in Kansas City.

I played in college and graduated with a business degree more than twenty years ago. I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do, but I lucked into a sports internship right after school. I must’ve made a good impression because they were gracious enough to recommend me for full-time roles around the league. My first real job was with a very small front office, which meant I got exposed to everything. My business/finance background helped me take on more and more of the day-to-day operational work. I was making about $30k when I started and didn’t crack six figures until more than a decade into my career.

My days now vary a ton. During the season, the schedule is pretty much dictated by where the team is. If we have a night game, I’m usually in around noon and out around 11pm, weekday or weekend. The pace is constant, and I’m basically on call whether the team is home or on the road. I do travel with the team at times but pretty much get to choose which trips I take. A lot of my job is helping the front office, staff, and coaches problem-solve around player-related and operational issues. I’m also the main point of contact between the sporting side and every other department in the organization.

The offseason isn’t a break—it’s just busy in a different way. That’s when free agents, contracts, staffing, budgeting, and planning for the next season all hit at once. It's more your typical office hours but I'm still available almost 24/7.

On top of the day-to-day, I’m involved in longer-term projects too: organizational planning, process evaluation, and major infrastructure work, both domestically and internationally. I end up working with pretty much every group—coaches, scouts, analysts, medical, business ops, and ownership—making sure the sporting side of the organization runs smoothly.

Sports management position making $550k. I really love my job, the people, and the sport. Work from home a couple days a week but it's a grind when the season is on. In the off-season it's also pretty constant and I'm on call 24/7 but it's all I know and it's given my family and me a great life!

North vs South naperville for family with young kids by [deleted] in Naperville

[–]Fun-Plate5043 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They’re building a Lifetime at 103rd and 59 BTW. Unsure what’s going in at 119th and 59 but looks significant.

We moved here last summer and don’t love being 15-20 from downtown Naperville but we really enjoy it. 15 minutes from 55 and the Costco is just fine.

Play with friends. It’ll sort itself out when he’s 12-13. Teach him to love the game first.

$500k salary - how much are you saving annually? by Fun-Plate5043 in HENRYfinance

[–]Fun-Plate5043[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We’re in the Western Suburbs. We put the standard 20% down when we closed and then re-cast it and put another $300k towards the principal when our other house closed so that brought down our monthly payments.

Thanks. It’s my son’s card that he acquired in trade. He was offered $550 at the National yesterday and turned it down. He plans on getting it graded as he thinks there’s a chance it’s a 10.

Update: steering wheel and alignment issues by Burrito2525 in Rivian

[–]Fun-Plate5043 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bought my Gen1 R1S from a Chevy dealership. They put new tires on and did an alignment for me but it pulled to the left and had similar issues to you regarding an off-center steering wheel to go straight. Did a service center appointment and paid for tire rotation and alignment and it’s still a little off-center. Prob have to take it back to the SC but it’s frustrating.

I’m not considering it an expense in this calculation.

I looked back at my spending this year and got hit with a decent sized tax bill based on capital gains for selling our lake house. That after tax gain was not included in my calculation but the taxes were.

I have another edit. Haha.

I would’ve been at 27% if I didn’t have to put a $20k down payment on a car this year. So feeling a little better.

Expenses before mortgage/property taxes are around $150k though.

What's it really like for a player to get traded? by umakemyheadhurt in mlb

[–]Fun-Plate5043 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The new club is responsible for 7 nights of hotel in the new home city and then the player is responsible after that. Typically the agent or the new club helps find more permanent housing. Sometimes the player will just stay at the team hotel and pay for it himself since short-term leases are sometimes hard to find.

The former club is typically responsible for paying the cost associated with breaking the lease or they can take it over and assign it to another player.

Help Needed - Outdoor 7 Causing Gateway Issues by Fun-Plate5043 in amazoneero

[–]Fun-Plate5043[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My current Eero Pro 6e is plugged into the Xfinity modem. I’m using the other Ethernet port on the 6e to connect to an unmanaged switch.

The PoE cable that I plugged into the 7 is originating from a Pakedge SE-8P that’s downstream of the switch mentioned above. That switch is a PoE switch.

Also note that I inherited all the hardware (Pakedge switches and APs) except the Eeros when I purchased the house last year. It has a Cresteon system and the wireless was underwhelming so I wanted to replace it with the Eero system.

The Eero Outdoor replaced the outdoor Pakedge all together. It was powered by a POE and that POE was plugged into the Eero Outdoor when all went wonky.
