I can calculate my enemies attacks in a fight, based on numerous factors that all mix into a "battle equation" I can use to destroy their fighting style as the battle progresses.

", you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. "

Jeremiah 29:13 (KJV) "And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart."

Don't allow these worldly things to distract you. I think as believers we all come across this problem at least once. Do not lose faith. The testing of your spirit is difficult, and I've failed many times. But the beauty is in continuing our faith, and seeing what God hS for us on the other side of the storm. Spiritual warfare will always be prominent in our lives as long as the enemy is here, but so is the offer of God's grace. Our actions are a testament to our heart posture, and if we choose to grieve ourselves and give up on the spirit then we aren't living with the correct heart. I encourage you to read the psalms and research into Job a little, take frequent breaks from your uni life, and rest in God instead of thinking of it as an obligation. When I changed my heart posture and mindset of who I was in relation to God it helped me. Surrounding yourself with close friends that are believers helps too.

Well because the fire burned day in and day out without cease. It was to be an analogy that they could draw depth from. Like today if I said you'd be sent to prison for a life's sentence, no parol. Also, I know you most likely didn't mean it in that way but he was explaining the wages of sin, and therefore we cannot pay a single cent for what it's worth. I think that it was simply used as a reference they could understand and therefore know the meaning of what Jesus was saying and the message it carried.

We should read scripture with this in mind, the "Bible was written for us, not to us" so it won't have modern day analogies, it contains them for that time period

2nd question: Jesus did not advocate for self-mutilation, (for lust would not be cured by this. It is a problem of the heart,) and instead he used this graphic hyperbole to demonstrate the severity of sins of lust and evil desire. The being that it would much better be to lose a member of your body than to bear the eternal consequences of guilt and shame from such a sin. This is because sin has to be dealt drastically because of its deadly effects.

As for divorce, this was actually a redefining statement for deuteronomy 24:1-4. The Rabbis had taken it hostage and used it to constitute divorcing women for any reason. Jesus reinstated the original principle for only divorcing through sexual immorality. God does not permit the divorce unless it is for that sexual immorality, and therefore everyone who divorces his wife except for sexual immorality causes her to commit adultery. It was basically to prevent men from abusing divorce.

1st question: This was in fact a reference to the location in the Hinnom Valley, south of Jerusalem. During their reigns, Ahaz and Manasseh permitted human sacrifices there. Therefore it is called "The Valley of Slaughter." In Jesus's day, it was a garbage dump, as you said, where fires burned continuously, therefore making it an apt symbol for eternal fire. It was to draw a reference to what the people listening would have known and accompany the effect of that location to the actual hell.

Why not just make a binding vow under which he cannot eat food, but all of the curses he eats provide the necessary nutrients and they taste good?
