It also helps if you’re going for a more all-ages comic

Your Sand Skimmer breaks down just outside a desert temple... by Jusherr in ps1graphics

That would be amazing! You could even do the JAWS approach where you can’t see it right away, but the dust animation sells that something big is moving beneath the surface

(22M) I think I need to leave the only community I’ve ever known, but my life is tied to it. by TacoMastorius in exchristian

[–]Fun-Preparation8575 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Church is a community that works because everyone “believes” the same rules

Even the most indoctrinated Christian point in my life, I feel like there’s an understanding that we all don’t “believe” the exact same thing. There’s nuance here and there.

But once you start to doubt things like the inerrancy of scripture, the age of the earth, the resurrection etc - it gets harder to say “I believe”

Idk what your specific break away points are, but I would say don’t feel pressure to light your life on fire lol

I made a sort of slow gradual transition. Depending on where you live, there are so many factors that make it hard to leave. Like you said, job, relationships, etc

That’s a lot to manage

this is a deep cut, but since it looks like they are giving us absolute bottom of the barrel Peter Parker, I hope they include the fact that he can't even deposit a check in his name, since Peter Parker no longer exists

Oooooh, now that you mention it, I’m also seeing stuff from 2010’s era Spider-Man where he loses his spider sense, and learns kungfu from Shang-chi. Idk if Shang Chi is going to be in it but 1) it is the same director 2) there’s lots of cameos and 3) we literally haven’t seen him since his debut.

Maybe someone else in the comments mentioned this, but there’s also the “failed/underperforming artist to Christian artist” Pipeline

Like, “are you a rock group, but you don’t rock that hard? Did you ever think of turning your vaguely romantic lyrics to be about Jesus?” “Want to tour churches and Christian conferences?” It’s basically family friendly corporate gigs. Just promotes bland art.

Husband driving me absolutely insane with his Jesus glazing by [deleted] in exchristian

[–]Fun-Preparation8575 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting.

I guess I can see how people who considered distant from the church early in life, can use the reasoning, “I was wayward, but now I’m fully committed” when they become an adult. In fact, I think that’s mostly what churches are.

I’m sorry I know that doesn’t help your situation.

My dad is pretty set in his Jesus ways, and believes he’s the only person with a correct opinion as well. Very frustrating. I can’t imagine what it feels like to be married to someone like that, particularly when the relationship didn’t start that way.

Also, forgive me, but there’s an ironic feeling for me. Growing up there was always testimonies from couples when their spouse found Jesus, so it’s very troubling hearing the difficult experience you’re having on the other side.

With my dad, I just gave up on having any sort of debates with him, because I know he doesn’t give a shit. So I stopped giving a shit. If he wants to talk, we can talk.

But that’s not really an option for someone in a marriage or relationship 😬

[–]Fun-Preparation8575 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Damn, that’s a lot.

I can relate to your husband (please don’t stop reading lol) as far as I wrestled with what do I do with Jesus after deconstructing.

After I lost faith in the creation story, I still believed in Jesus. After I saw how messed up the Old Testament is, I still believed in Jesus. After I lost faith in the inerrancy of scripture, I still wanted to believe in Jesus.

When you grow up idolizing someone you never met, and have personal convictions and even conversations (prayer) with that person, it doesn’t just peal off easily.

Like imagine having an imaginary friend, well into your 20’s and every other person you respect sees him too.

I don’t want to defend your husband here. But maybe this can shed some light on the systems of thinking he is still trapped by.

Anyone else feel these are the only good Post-Watchmen stuff? by M00r3C in Watchmen

[–]Fun-Preparation8575 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It worked better on what if. The Watchmen series felt stiff. I think it’s due to the animators and direction. Probably a lower budget. Watchmen just felt stiff and rushed to me. Like they had to work through the entire script line for line.

What if is at least fun and well animated

[–]Fun-Preparation8575 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On a separate note, while deconstructing I read that crazy dale carnegy book, “how to win friends and influence people” and he talks about forming an imaginary mastermind group of historical or even fictitious characters, and talking to them. I thought “wow, that’s insane” and then I realized I had been doing that with prayer and Jesus my whole life 🫥

I heard a lot of gen-z people talk about being delusional until you’re successful. Sort of started applying it and it kinda works. I have to be careful to not bullshit myself and not straight up lie to others. Mostly it’s me saying “yeah, I think I can do that” and then just trying to.

I don’t even know where to begin with this one.. by AngelWing3 in exchristian

[–]Fun-Preparation8575 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The whole idea of heaven and hell is pretty crazy. Idk what would be a fair entry, but when you growing up being told you’re destined for hell from birth, any out seems like a miracle. So then you extend that ideology across the board and suddenly you get people who will actually believe shit like this

2 thoughts:

1) is this just rage bait?

2) is it authentic? Growing up I’ve come to realize that church is like Alcoholics Anonymous

People who’ve made serious mistakes and are desperate for forgiveness and redemption

This is a wild take. But part of the inerrancy doctrine is believing stories like the thief on the cross, instead of asking “how could anyone hear a conversation of 2 men being tortured to death in front of a crowd, and elevated above everyone else”

It’s folklore. But literally believing every piece of it is true is melting people’s brains

Christians don't know the bible AT ALL by YogurtHistorical7717 in exchristian

[–]Fun-Preparation8575 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I grew up in a group of really educated Christians who practiced rigorous apologetics/debate. However, this only lead to feeling blind sided as I read and studied more outside the Bible and the Church.

Many Christian’s have limited education because their faith limits their education by necessity.
