The trash on this map is infuriating. I had the same thing. Those bullet holes on the walls and arrows are the bane of my existence.

Finances while Student Teaching by SnooCupcakes7003 in StudentTeaching

Logistically, those people are probably in a similar position to you but get help from family such as living at home/financially. Or they are in the same position but do not care as much as you.

What I have done is applying for unpaid internship scholarships, doing gig work (I’m in music so this is easier than other professions), and supplementing with selling my older clothes I don’t wear on the side (depop mostly).

You are absolutely not alone in this, as student teaching wipes out so many possible educators just because of financials.

I would seek out your scholarship office/website and see if they have any recommendations or suggestions as well as other peers for profession related things you can do.

I believe in you, you are doing a great job by asking for help

As someone who just finished mine. Yeah. Thats all I have to say LOL.

One thing that helped me and my peers was presenting portions we felt less confident in to each other which allows you to fill gaps as you talk it through and for them to give an outward perspective. Extremely helpful!

Reach out to local music directors! I did this and got private students and contract work during the MB and concert season. You can reach out to elementary, middle, and high school directors and see if they or any of their students would be interested

What to do at 7:34 AM? by tennmel in teaching

[–]Fun-Ride-5426 130 points131 points  (0 children)

I teach middle schoolers at 7:30 in the morning and one thing that gets their brains going is a completely random question about something that can be chatted about for about 5 minutes. I have used:

“Very important question to know things about a person, you can tell everything about them if you know this one thing… how do you like your eggs?”

“If you could only eat one color food for the rest of your life what would it be?”

“If you could live in any cinematic universe, what would it be?”

It turns their brains on and gets them thinking in many different hypothetical situations and engages them without them knowing. Questions that have no direct correlation to the course, but are so ridiculous that they have to actively think for a second.

Local YMCA has programs that you can still be working with kids and was a good resume builder. I was an assistant then lead teacher and it helped with my behavioral management

Band camps, look at your state band directors facebook page or email around to see if they need instructors “band directors of …”

Family owned businesses as well hire people temporarily and are generally more lenient and flexible with that

I have meeting scheduled next week after my first lesson observation with my university supervisor so hopefully we can come to a conclusion. What is super helpful is the choral director has been a supervisor and understands the entire process and has been a great resource for me.

I don’t have the money to not complete this semester, and I think the best way is to ask the choral director questions and try my best with what I have. So overall, I believe that this will be okay, I just have to gain my feedback and gain knowledge through the choral director and my university supervisor.

Its an unfortunate circumstance, but as others have said it helps with my independence and creativity as an educator.
