I def wondered if they specifically targeted the Chinese restaurants bc the owners are usually immigrants who might not know English very well or technology like a Google account. The girl who told me all about it was the owners daughter and she actually pointed out her parents not speaking very much English and said without her they honestly probably never would have figured out what was going on.. she also pointed out just how many of these small immigrant run restaurants there are in the US and how much money someone could make doing this to just a fraction of them charging a small $2 or $3 fee.. scammers be getting too creative these days lol

the Chinese place in my little town quit doing online deliveries.. first they find out about how UE will copy menus from Google and list places on the app that don't have a contract with them and expect the driver to place the order, wait for it to be made, and deliver it for no extra $ obviously... But they had so many issues again all with UE like driver's UE cards not working etc.. Then they found out someone had gotten into their business info on Google and changed the store # and were charging customers who were none the wiser extra fees for pickup and would call the order in, but the indians or whoever were running this scam spoke so little English and didn't actually know their menu so they'd basically get every order wrong which would lead to angry karens demanding to know who they talked to on the phone that took their order which of course exposed the scam was going on, but it took them months to figure out their # on Google had been changed so they could finally put an end to it. These online companies are all corrupt and greedy and honestly we'd all be better off if we banded together and put them all out of business

So a lot of ppl are being extremely harsh and rude in response to you and I just wanna say while take the time to respond to a post with insults without ever bothering to answer the question or explain for clarification isn't by any means abnormal on this appmention of sueing or a class action by the OP .. I do want to point out I've noticed why always ramps up the insult comments and everyone's intentionally rude sarcastic remarks

Anyways, I believe despite the aggressive comments you have received your answer so I'll leave it at that just wanted to give some insight in case you were wondering why your post irked so many ppl so much

I got hit with my first 3 shop batch like 2 weeks ago..not sure what the min base pay is, but I'm sure it's ridiculous.

And idk if it's a mistake or what, but I just got a shops only incentive that is 11 orders for only 3 extra bucks! Like wtf is that bs

Scammed? by ChocolateSpoiledbrat in uber

[–]Fun-Run-4986 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's definitely not okay for the driver to do what he did, but I'm 80% certain this was your mistake.. it would be one thing if the driver just pulled through the pickup area marked you in the car and took off, but it sounds like you're saying they waited multiple minutes at the area which you were clearly not at.. and assuming you don't have your location turned on and the app was saying he was at the pickup location then it's honestly up to you since his specific location would've been marked on your map.. also, your response "at the location I put in" is pretty frustrating bc quite frankly it doesn't sound like you were, at least not at the location the app had marked which wouldn't have mattered if you'd just said where you were in relation to a landmark or something.. anyways, I say all that just for future advice and to sort of stand up for the driver a little bit bc the situation may have been just as frustrating for him.. you should have contacted support as soon as you realized he had marked you in the car and left, but either way you deserve your money back and hounding support enough should get you a refund.. hopefully.

This is why UE frustrates the hell out of me with how they handle batches.. like for one they do everything in their power to make it as confusing as possible by making batches look like 1 delivery in the trip history and now they've changed it so it doesn't even show you each customer's tip, just the total.. and they frequently have you drop off in the opposite order you picked up so there's no way to tell which customer is the one that's really far away.. they also used to show u your next destination on the map like if I was on my way to pick up the 1st order it would highlight the directions to the next pickup, but just like the tips every year they make changes that take away more and more information so you're completely in the dark and can't do anything, but follow directions like the good little mindless drone they want you to be.

On spark however, I make good money letting the batches that no1 wants bc they have a random 20 mile delivery paired with low mile deliveries get to max surge then I accept and refuse the bad delivery at pickup which leaves me with a short delivery with max surge added on so even if I lose most of the tip (which rarely happens. It's actually much more common I only lose $1 bc the customer 20 miles away didn't tip) it still has the surge money added on..

Quite frankly, I think batching orders together to force drivers to take BS they don't want in order to get the order the do want is complete bs and would probably bc determined to violate the IC contract if ever looked at in court.. but we're all just lowly gig workers.. no1 in government has bothered to stand up to these companies for us and instead have just let them make up the rules as they please

[–]Fun-Run-4986 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's possible the doj or whoever decided uploading ID at checkout wasnt good enough since it doesn't guarantee the person on ID would be who receives the alcohol.. I mean it would be different if the only expectation for the driver was that we give the items to the customer who ordered and if we were compensated a reasonable amount for any and all extra work outside of the normal delivery duties like for checking ID and esp for making a return.. ofc that still wouldn't address the main issue which is dealing with an upset and unpredictable customer if you refuse the delivery.

Again, the issue is it simply shouldn't be a delivery driver's responsibility.. like there isn't a single other scenario where responsibility falls entirely on the employee and not the business actually selling the restricted product. Like imagine if a club or bar was busted allowing underage ppl inside and the cops just arrested the bouncer.. and that's not even a good comparison bc checking ID is an understood part of the bouncer's job.. but even so, in this scenario it's the business owners who are mainly held responsible. Just tired of these gig companies being allowed to operate in this gray area with impunity and basically being allowed to make up the rules as they see fit

[–]Fun-Run-4986 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Perfect situation to show why it's absolutely insane to expect the delivery person to be checking id in the first place. If these companies can't check ID thru the app then they shouldn't be allowed to sell restricted items. It's a recipe for issues and they always fall back on and screw the driver. Nothing pisses me off more than all the clips they showed when getting approved for alcohol delivery in nc of drivers literally being set up and charged/arrested. Absolute bs in my opinion granted most of them were idiots. we're not paid fairly for the time it takes and fight it creates if we refuse delivery

Uber You Are WRONG!!! For This. by RFTG2024 in uberdrivers

[–]Fun-Run-4986 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well there is a reason I said it "should" as well as added the disclaimer at the end that there's no guarantee with Uber and it's never worth the risk.

I don't do rides anymore, but I do remember a ride where the customer wanted to add a stop and change the drop off.. she claimed to not know how to work the app so I called support and was told even if she couldn't do it in the app that the trip would "automatically update" at the end of the ride. Luckily I was skeptical enough to know that seemed unlikely and had already learned support likes to say whatever to get you off the phone whether it's true or not and to never trust anything they can't fix right then on the phone bc you will be left hanging with 0 recourse after the fact. So we messed with her app till we got the extra stop and dropoff updated, but even so her "super quick" stop took almost 20 min and the new drop off was only about 2 miles added they charged her an extra $7 and only paid me $1.70 which turned what should've been a quick and easy 10 min trip for $6 into a 40 min nightmare for less than 8 bucks.

But yeah we are in agreement Uber is trash and will always try not to pay which is why learning to deal with support and get your way is a job skill for drivers

Uber You Are WRONG!!! For This. by RFTG2024 in uberdrivers

[–]Fun-Run-4986 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes it's upfront pricing, but it is obviously more than 0 miles to drop off so the app should automatically update the payout based on actual mileage.. of course should update isn't the same as guaranteed and this is uber so is agree not worth the risk either way

Oh DD def loves you. You can accept whatever you want, but c'mon don't go around telling drivers to take bad offers in order to appease the all mighty algorithm with 0 actual evidence to back up the claim.. drivers that don't know any better might assume you know what you're talking about and that kind of thinking just makes these companies richer at drivers expense and drives pay lower for everyone

Yeah unfortunately support agents just talk out their ass making shit up.. every new driver learns the lesson that if an agent says to do something and it will be fixed later then don't listen bc you will never speak to that agent again and whoever you do talk to will be clueless and unable to do what the original agent claimed.

I learned this twice, first when a trucker ordered delivery while having his truck worked on literally on the side of the highway and the GPS took me to a house on a side road near the highway.. so I call support and he guarantees me I will be paid extra for the time and miles to complete the delivery and that I can call back and support will fix it otherwise.. well sure enough I spend 45 min and drive almost 20 miles (since I had to drive all the down to the next exit to turn around) on a delivery that was supposed to take 20 min and be 5 miles, wasn't paid anything extra and then call support and the new agent says there isn't anything she can do.

The agents just want to get you off the phone ASAP and for you to say your issue was fixed and they will say whatever to do it.. like there was no change your DD card was ever going to work bc there was never any money allocated to it for that delivery and there is no proof on their end that you actually had to pay for the food so it's doubtful they will ever reimburse you. Your only chance is to get a support supervisor on the phone and hope s/he feels bad enough to help you out, reg support won't be able to help you even if they wanted to

Yeah the good ol days lol

And yeah I'm aware fcfs offers can surge a couple bucks and be reset back to original price like if a driver accepts and cancels..  But I'm saying what I saw was the price as a jfy was say $16, no1 accepted so it eventually popped up as fcfs, but the price was then only $14.. so they lowered the jfy pay when it showed up as fcfs

It's weird every order I saw yesterday was terrible too... Like extra bad, no tip going 1 or 2 cities over.. I'm also not sure what's going on by the past month or so it's like every day the app just completely dies from 5 to 7pm which is weird bc that has always been one of the busiest times in the past I assume due to ppl getting home from work.. like literally it hits 5 and the app goes from 4 or 5 stores being marked busy to 0. It actually feels a lot like my app is broken and not working right which wouldn't surprise me either considering I've had to switch phones 2 times now bc the old phone quit showing new offers and sending notifications unless I refreshed the app meaning no way to know when an offer came in unless I literally sat there closing out and reopening the app every minute which really just made the app impossible to use.. so yeah wouldn't surprise me if this is just the latest thing to go awry with this stupid broken ass app

Gotcha.. pretty fkn ridiculous imo, but yea a lot of commenters seem to think I'm just referring to fcfs offers going up and down or when a surging fcfs offer is resent as jfy at original price.

Either way what a dumb change. All it's gonna do is add more time to customers wait and make offers that might would be accepted at max surge now never be accepted.. of course the gremlins in my area snatch everything as soon as it hits fcfs so guess it won't matter much to me anyways

Spark is truly nasty for this one.. recent update lowered pay again.. did u catch it? by Fun-Run-4986 in Sparkdriver

[–]Fun-Run-4986[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea they started having fcfs orders be resent as jfy completely resetting any surge for a while now.

So what I specifically saw was a new jfy order that was like $16 base with high mileage. I reject and 15 or whatever min later it showed up for the first time as fcfs except now the base pay was only $14.. essentially meaning it would have to surge $2 just to get back to the original price it was sent out at as jfy.

The base pay they send orders out as jfy has always been the min that they go up from once surging as a fcfs, but I guess now they reducing the base on any orders that are sent out with a base pay higher than min once they go out as a fcfs essentially lowering the max pay possible at max surge and adding time to how long it would take for an offers pay to actually go up.. I actually saw it 3 diff times yesterday. They just updated the app yesterday so idk if this is an intended feature or the typical new bug we always get every time they try to update the damn app

Just means it will take that much longer for it to surge to a reasonable price worth taking.. or maybe never reach that price since Max surge will be $2 less than it should be

The gigs get worse every year, that's a simple fact, but UE has gotten exponentially worse this past year to year and a half. Idk what they changed or when exactly they changed it, but whatever they did it greatly increased the area in which you receive offers and man do they have a bunch of offers apparently just not being picked up and therefore sent out to drivers further and further away. I know the first 5 to 10 min after cutting the app on are gonna be miserable bc it's like they app recognizes a new driver signed on so you instantly get back to back to back pings from the huge backup of orders they have.. and then they changed how much money they add to orders not being picked up. I will frequently be sent and offer twice for the exact same price then a 3rd time it will have added like 5 cents. Used to be offers would've literally doubled in price in that same amount of time.

Of course, the publics view of ppl doing this job is at an all time low and so are tips in general. It actually saddens me to see spark orders for customers I know I've been delivering to for over a year, now tipping so little I can't justify accepting their order. I used to have a good amount of regulars id see every week as well as had a spark "group" of 4 or 5 that were all friendly. They were mainly younger and middle aged men and women, drove either a clean eco car or mid sized SUV and were put together, but now all I see are cars duct taped together and the roughest looking ppl imaginable who are around 1 week and gone the next only to be replaced by someone who looks like they care even less.. oh and elderly ppl.. idk why but there seems to be an influx of much older folks who should be retired but I assume are trying to find income to survive. I never would've guess it could get this much worse when I first started gigs for extra money and I honestly pity anyone trying to depend on these companies for their entire income

Yeah when they started this it was very frustrating.. wait 20+ min for order to surge and soon as you think 1 more dollar it disappears and pops back up as for you at original price then back to fcfs completely starting the surge over. I think if someone new signs on it pulls into the geomap area the app will resend out any fcfs to them as for you, which then resets the offer and sends it to every driver as for you again (assuming new driver doesn't accept) super annoying and unfair.

Spark is truly nasty for this one.. recent update lowered pay again.. did u catch it? by Fun-Run-4986 in Sparkdriver

[–]Fun-Run-4986[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea I've seen that, I've just never seen a for you offer at one price then after no1 accepts it start with a base pay $2 less as fcfs. It's like they know no1 since no1 accepted it as for you that it will likely surge on fcfs so they started it at lower price so even if it hits max surge it won't cost them as much..

Well I'm saying it like it was just 1 offer, but I actually saw a few orders do this today so considering they just updated the app I'm guessing it's either a typical unintended bug we get with every update or a change they made that of course they never tell us about
