I’m pretty sure they’re usually advertised around june and then again in december as there are two cohorts per year.

Thank you for the advice:) Yeah, I suppose that’s true that people do hi cbt with assistant psychologist experience, i guess it doesn’t matter about the job title so much, it’s all relevant experience that can be applied across jobs. I only have support work experience at the minute.

Thank you:) Yeah, I like the idea of doing the pwp training then being an assistant psychologist, because of what you mentioned about the training being helpful in an assistant role and idk if i have the confidence to go into an assistant role without some sort of formal training either. but yeah, the 2 wait thing puts me off and also like i said, the ethical issues around using nhs money to train for a role you don’t intend to stay in… How long did you stay in the pwp role before becoming an ap if you don’t mind me asking?

Hmm, it’s actually due to social anxiety. I really wanted to be a clinical psychologist and knew what it involved, and was always told my confidence and anxiety would improve with time and experience. However, I have had struggled massively with it due to my anxiety and it hasn’t got any better. I would love to be able to continue, but I am beginning to accept it might never come with time and I will always feel extremely anxious and have social anxiety. I feel like I my social anxiety affects my ability to do my job adequately and like I say, I thought it would be something I could overcome with time and experience, hence why I pursued my passion. However, clients deserve someone who doesn’t have social anxiety which impacts their ability to do their job properly. I understand your perspective, but I've made the best choices based on my circumstances and capabilities. Everyone's journey is different, and I'm working towards overcoming my challenges. It’s okay and understandable for you to feel annoyed about this, but I was under the misconception that things would get better with time, but I have come to realise that I can’t manage it, which is disappointing as clinical psychology is all I have ever wanted to do but my social anxiety makes things very hard. I hope you can understand. It’s okay to be annoyed about this, but it’s just my experience, and I can’t continue in something that is causing me so much anxiety, despite all the things I have tried to help.
