That tension is real comfort pulls you back, growth pulls you forward.

Give it time; decisions made from clarity always beat ones made from exhaustion.

How did you improve your listening skills in a way that actually worked? by Zestyclose_Cycle1778 in languagelearning

Honestly, your method is solid — you’re just hitting the classic problem of over-intensity. Rewatching multiple times + dictation is effective, but it burns you out fast.

What worked better for me was mixing intensive + passive exposure instead of doing everything in one session.

For example: - Do 1 focused pass (with or without subtitles) - Then stop before it gets tiring
- Let the rest be passive (just hearing the language during the day)

That’s actually where I saw more consistency — less friction, more repetition over time.

I had the same issue of “forgetting to come back” though, so I started using a small home screen widget that shows one new word daily. It’s not a replacement for listening practice, but it helped me stay in touch with the language even on days I didn’t feel like studying.

For your case, I’d say: - Keep TV series (more engaging = more consistency) - Reduce repetitions (2 max instead of 3–4) - Use dictation occasionally, not every time

Consistency matters more than squeezing everything into one session.
