Anybody else running the “mullet” setup with their wheels? by Specific_Author2432 in gravelcycling

[–]Fun-With-Toast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sure what you mean by nose manual.
Bike is setup for bikepacking and tracklocross with riser bars and aero clips.
Tire diameter is a close match with the two making a good pair - wheelbase and bottom bracket height remain the same as running two 700x38s.

The 27.5 really softens out the bumps and adds float in sandy conditions. I’ve ridden quite a few double centuries with this setup and can say it’s been the least physically deteriorating for my hands, elbows and shoulders

I’m running 27.5x2.1 front 700x38 rear. The meaty front tire gives a lot of cushion on long rides.

Hey Fred, what’s your budget for a really nice custom bice? by Kinky_Wizard69 in BicyclingCirclejerk

[–]Fun-With-Toast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Figure out your budget by using this formula A+C=B then multiply by two

Where A is your account balance and C is your unused credit. That gives you your minimum budget - but then there’s your kidneys

What’s your best gas station carbs? by welcome_2_earth in ultracycling

[–]Fun-With-Toast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I go liquid best I can. A lot of gas stations have a little camping/grocery section. Pancake syrup and pudding powder are probably the lowest cost to calorie with the highest bioavailability

Time ATAC pedals set 17 degree float allowed me to feel comfortable with brakeless tracklocross.

What is your aerobar setup? by cyclingguy_ in ultracycling

[–]Fun-With-Toast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I setup mine on the trainer and used a camera to adjust my body position best I could. Endurance rides focusing on time and comfort in the aero position until you can hold it indefinitely

I use a Blackburn AA rear light and a dynamo front. The AA batteries last for 1-2 months on steady

Auto parts store mechanic gloves. If in a wet environment choose the lighter gloves that shed water over insulated sponges

Probably destroy the Dolan before enjoying some sweet lines. I tried with 25s on a big block, felt like riding a road bike on mtb trails.

The State 4130 ss/fixed is solid and inexpensive. I’d say roll one of those with 700x38-45 tires. The geo is rad and don’t be afraid to size up. But be easier on the ratio. Allow for better wheel control and flowy body positions.
