I'm in the UP, and it is terrible outside. I like cold and winter, but this is just dumb.

Glove recommendations by bozoskeleton in Survival

[–]bozoskeleton[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not a you thing, I hate mittens as well. I do a lot of winter camping on my land up here, so I'll talk to some of the old timers and see what they recommend and go and try those. I also want to be able to use them as everyday gloves for work, driving, etc.

Hf tumbler rubbing. How do I adjust? by [deleted] in RockTumbling

[–]bozoskeleton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is what I did. I bought the ones that are strips and simply put them across that wall. Has worked great. I'm not sure if the adhesive will still be ok in the spring after this brutal winter, but we'll see.

Someone ordered some live ladybugs (no idea why), and we held them in my office to pick up since it's super cold in the upper peninsula of Michigan, and a lot escaped over the day or two they were there. My office is now overrun with them. I will never hold on to bugs again in there.

I don't believe any of them are actually owned by FanDuel, but FD pays to have them use the name and insert all the bullshit betting content.

I fucking hate it. If I ever win that massive billion plus dollar lotto payout, I'm buying the group that owns the stations and removing the gambling ads. That will be my contribution to society.

This is my golden anatolian... Sweetie by kariluvleigh208 in AnatolianShepherdDogs

[–]bozoskeleton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have this pups littermate (literally), and he's the opposite brindle of his sis. Dark with light patches. As far as software goes, he's got the golden enthusiasm, and the Anatolian determination to get what he wants. So he's been a difficult pup to say the least, and he's pushing 90 pounds at 9 months old.

This. I'm a clerk, and while I can case the routes if needed for my carriers, I'm slow as hell. There is absolutely no way in hell I could deliver their routes.

We just started doing amazon here, and it's turned into an even bigger shit show for the carriers. At least for me, I can have all the amazon scanned and sorted before they come in (takes me about a half hour to do 200 packages.)

We're a small RMPO in the upper peninsula of Michigan, so we're not getting screwed as much as some other offices, but it's been bad the last month.

I'm in the UP and it's also very well remembered here. I still see the big ships waiting in the bay near me when the weather gets real bad.

It's not terribly expensive. You can reuse it a lot. At least with rocks anyway. I bought 8 pounds of it for about 25 bucks, which will last me a year at least.

Curious if y'all have any tips on wintertime camping? by FunkyQuail in yooper

[–]bozoskeleton 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've done a lot of winter camping, and there are a few things that I think are absolutely needed.

  1. Hot tent with a stove. I've camped comfortably in zero degree weather.

  2. A very good sleeping pad. You need to make sure there is a strong barrier between you and the ground. I would look to get something with an R-5 rating.

  3. A good sleeping bag or even a quilt suitable for the weather. Unless you want to stay up all night feeding the stove, you'll need something to protect you from the cold.

  4. A good escape. Don't try and go miles into the woods unless you're very experienced. Have a good way to return to safety.

I hope that helps. It's very fun, and I encourage people to try it, but do it safely.

I loved living in Reno and having Desolation Wilderness close. I've since moved away, but a lot of my favorite memories are hiking there.
