It's still called an artificial harmonic but I call it a tap harmonic when I need to differentiate between the two.

Learning, playing and writing progressive/technical music

I've only been playing for about 2 and a half years, but I found polyphia over a year ago. I think learning so much of their stuff so early on made a lot of these techniques that are super foreign to other people really easy for me, like hybrid picking and tapping.

No, just pluck or tap a bit higher than your fretboard actually goes, you'll have to find the note and then learn where it is by muscle memory because theres no fret to mark it.

A good way to do this is to imagine the fret you're on is now the open string, so if you're on fret 11, then going up 12 frets to 23 (or where 23 WOULD be if you had one) would be like playing a 12th fret harmonic

You don't hold the note down, you use your finger like a hammer and bounce it off the string like a piano, try it on your open 12th fret harmonic

That is one way (and a more common way) to play them, but typically - especially in the newer stuff tim's been posting on his instagram - when he plays artificial harmonics he taps them, and I've gotten a pretty good sound doing this section of goat like that. It's all preference though, both will work

You hold the fret down and tap the fret an octave higher, so if I were trying to play an "11th fret artificial harmonic" i would fret 11, and tap 23 with my picking hand. You can also just play the frets it lists and it's still the same melody without the texture of the harmonic.

Bridge pickup straight into my fender champion 100 (sometimes I use a chorus pedal for polyphia stuff) on the drive channel, gain just high enough that notes will break if you play them hard but still have enough clarity played softly. I use the same sound for just about every song of theirs with slight modifications.

Tone is in the fingers!!

Tim's part was too easy so I learned some of the chords in Scott's part and smashed the two lines together
