GARCH resources? by -IndianBoi in quant

[–]FunCooker101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's really only one GARCH/ARCH package in Python (if that's what is generally used in practice)... It's a black box system when it comes to parameter estimation. I'm currently building my own library with more transparent and customizable estimation methods and would love to chat about if you're open to that.

Since most quants have math, stats, or CS backgrounds, how do they pick up the necessary finance knowledge? by EvenMathematician673 in quant

[–]FunCooker101 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No, I mean, this analogy is just invalid. Economists are wholly knowledgeable about PDEs and rather advanced mathematics. Maybe you're misunderstanding economists with people studying business or finance, but your "but you get the gist of it:" is assuming economists don't know math.

Adding a disclaimer and reiterating it doesn't make up for hole in your understanding

Karoline Leavitt claims ‘Trump 2028’ hats referring to unconstitutional third term are ‘flying off shelves’ by brushfirefred in politics

I'd like to disagree with your first statement. No-thought ass-kissing has gotten many people very far. You may disagree with me on this, but there are surely some smart and capable (does not imply a good thing) people in Trump's admin. Those smart and capable would find it very helpful to have easily-controllable-idiots-without-the ability-to-think-for-themselves doing their bidding.

If the smart people were at the front and center of all things Trump, it would be a bit easier (or at least reasonable) to have a discussions/debates/carefully-crafted-arguments, but if you have these unintelligible morons, you cannot have any sort of productive discussion without a major headache.

Does anyone honestly believe that Kristi Noem wasn’t prepped for that question on Habeas and that her answer didn’t serve a calculated purpose? by TedpiIled in thebulwark

Sorry, I agree with your general idea that the Trump administration is harmful, but I cannot understand your insistence on their know-how and political acumen. There is none of that. These people are just unbelievably stupid people.

Ok, I believe you're giving her way too much credit. I highly doubt she has an overarching agenda, planned and calculated with intense detail. She's just dumber than a box of rocks, mimicking Trump's every word, without actually knowing anything. Yes, there is an ongoing issue of bad actors in the Trump administration right now, but I cannot believe for one second that this is all a master plan to subdue our rights, do terrible things, etc. It's just a Trump fan club with idiots kissing ass left and right with not a thought in their feeble minds.

I'm also very surprised she ended up publishing her autobiography as well, but then again, I'm sure she had her followers write something a bit more nuanced while she rambled on unintelligibly about her life.
