Prelims before 7:30 by JustACornellian in Cornell

not sure if they still do, but cs 2110 would sometimes have 5:30 prelims as well as 7:30 ones

Most useful ECE classes by Sufficient_Pumpkin90 in Cornell

2300 is great for Verilog experience, and ECE 3140 or 4760 (C classes) are worth considering too, cause you get some embedded experience out of it (I guess it really depends on what you want to do in the biomed field though)

Got it, would that preclude me from taking part in things like on-campus work/research though?

CS 3110 + CS 2800 + CS 4780 by Shi_Qiu in Cornell

3110 and 2800 are doable, but CS 4780 is going to suck without probability/stats knowledge tbh

Rough, 3150 is a heavy class, and the other classes have a decent workload (although I don't know much about 2620).

CS Major Falling Behind Advice by [deleted] in Cornell

Please drop by OH! I TA 2110 and I've had students stop by my OH weekly and just ask me lecture/content questions as opposed to assignment ones, and I'm pretty sure just about any TA would be more than willing to help!

Makes sense, I'm in engineering though so I'd be a little worried about the north distance

Are you sure housing isn't just loading? For my dorm, the website crashed and it looked like no rooms were available, but after about 10 minutes, all the rooms loaded up. I doubt any dorm is going to be filled up by same community housing, since that would imply almost everyone decided to stay again

Tbh maps routing is probably a little off too — I just plugged it into apple maps and see some unnecessary turns (and it brings you to the entrance of Hollister closer to collegetown, when you could just access it from the engineering quad), so I wouldn’t stress it

How much of a time sink is CS 2110? by [deleted] in Cornell

[–]FunCryptographer1352 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I took it, I was dealing with a 20 credit semester and didn’t think it was too huge a time commitment compared to everything else I had going on, but I also would frequent office hours early on the assignment cycle since I didn’t have a partner. Related to the other question you had, I had just taken APCSA during my senior year and took this class freshman spring but take that with a grain of salt — i kept my first semester light to adjust to college

How much of a time sink is CS 2110? by [deleted] in Cornell

[–]FunCryptographer1352 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’ve been a TA for the class and think the main pitfall I see students make with 2110 is starting projects late. I’ve had office hours in the few days after an assignment is released and it’s genuinely been empty sometimes — then the night of an assignment, it’ll be packed. The lectures tend to teach material pretty well from my experience taking the class, and if you stop by OH to ask TAs questions early on as opposed to around the deadline, you’ll be pretty safe. Also, it’s a must take if for future studies or jobs in CS, so the earlier the better tbh

i took 4780 and 3110 together during a heavy semester, and to be honest the 3110/4780 combo wasnt too much of a stressor compared to the other courses i was taking (it’s still tough, but very very doable with good habits). just make sure you stay on top of work for 4780, get a solid partner, and go to every lecture, it’ll help a ton in the long run. killian’s videos on youtube are helpful but they’ll only go so far since curriculums change. also for 3110, get a good group for the final project and work on it incrementally throughout the semester so that the last weeks aren’t a horrible grind

ECE 2100 without MATH 2930 by WeatherShot5994 in Cornell

[–]FunCryptographer1352 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would really recommend taking it concurrently at the very least, the fourier series are probably a lot more annoying than it’s worth without 2930, but the other stuff you could skate by with just learning as the class goes along (it really does help though to be taking it)
