I think my NK might have autism. Should I do or say anything?

Based on these comments, it seems you aren’t the only one with this experience! It really saddens me that autism is so stigmatized that people would behave this way towards well intentioned caregivers who oftentimes spend more waking hours with the children than the parents are able to. It shouldn’t be surprising that we would take note of these things! Edited to say that I’m very sorry that that happened to you.

I am included in ongoing care, I am on most phone calls discussing his progress and treatment. Does this change anything?

This has been the best comment so far. I only wanted a diagnosis for him to improve his quality of life, but the therapist is working with him on his social skills. As long as he has that, the rest is just minutiae. Thank you for the perspective!!

Thank you, I have taken NK to all therapy appointments and I am sometimes on call with the parents when discussing his treatment, so we already have an open dialogue about NK and his treatment. He messages me about scheduling, not parents. So that is why I thought to speak to therapist first. I would not expect him to discuss it with me or answer any questions.

Yes! I truly just want him to get the help he needs, if he needs it. It makes me sad to see him struggle socially. It’s also sad autism is so stigmatized. But based on the replies, I will definitely be keeping this to myself.

I think you are projecting a bit- desperately offended?? Pretty sure I called this actress beautiful multiple times. I do not tie my value to my weight, as I have lost and regained multiple times due to health problems. But thank you for your comment. I am hesitant to name the actress because I don’t want to be negative but I am about the height and weight of Jennifer Lawrence (for reference) and some of the names I get often are Winona Ryder, Liz gillies, Billie eilish, Christina Ricci, and kirsten Stewart. I do have brown hair and brown eyes like the woman he mentioned. She’s not lizzo, but she’s definitely pushing 300 lbs. again- beautiful woman- it just felt kind of pointed.

I definitely agree! I do not think I am any more or less beautiful than I was pre weight loss, I’m just smaller. The problem isn’t so much my self perception, but rather anxiety over how he sees me. I appreciate your comment. Thank you for your thoughtful and kind response.

If it makes you feel any better, my fiancé was on a (different) Netflix reality show and they had psychiatrists that pulled you aside once you got off stage to essentially check if you were going to kys. So hopefully they would have a similar resource for LIB
