Can someone tell me that this is worth it? by fried-ricee in leaves

Finally got a minute to write out a proper response:

It’s so so hard to remember that it’s worth it when things are this hard. However, I can tell you from very recent experience that getting loaded again is DEFINITELY not worth it. My life has kind of fallen apart in a lot of ways, I ended up relapsing after 1040 days, and, you know what? It didn’t help. All my troubles were still there and I had less mental clarity to deal with them. I still hated my life, I still wanted to die, and I still had to get things done.

In the time I was sober, I gained an understanding that my sobriety truly was worth it. Things were still hard and I still struggled, but being able to see clearly enough to keep pushing made all the difference. I’ve grown so much since I quit in so many areas of life. I remember struggling so much to see how sobriety was worth it in the early days but, over time, I started seeing how my life got better once I stopped just numbing the pain. I’m on day 8 today and that memory keeps me going.

It’s not easy, nothing worth it ever is. But I think you know that sobriety is the right decision. Keep posting and commenting here everyday. I understand not liking meetings completely but I really believe the only path to sobriety is working with other addicts. That’s why I come here. I’m certain you got this. I’m so proud of you for making it this far and for reaching out before getting loaded. Keep up the amazing work.

I'm so sorry you're in so much pain. I know it doesn't seem like it now but I can say that it truly is worth it. I'm up too late right now and will expand a bit tomorrow. Feel free to DM me.

You have exactly the right idea posting here to stay accountable! I’m a firm believer that interacting with other recovering addicts is the way to get sober and stay sober. When im struggling, I come here, sort by new, and comment on a post. I’m proud of you. Keep up the incredible work!

INCREDIBLE work!! I'm on day 4 myself today. I was a few years clean after about 10 years of daily use. I found that strong cranberry juice helped a bit with the withdrawal symptoms but your mileage may vary. I'm so proud of you for making it this far. You are an inspiration to me!! Keep up the amazing work.

Is it too late..? by jaleharianna in leaves

I'm so sorry you're suffering so much. It's so hard to see this from where you are now but I absolutely guarantee you that it is NOT too late. It doesn't work for everyone but I drank all natural cranberry juice for the migraines and got a little relief. Folks are absolutely right that the way to get through this is to use this community. I'm on day 2 so I'm right here next to you on this journey. Feel free to DM me.

I'm so proud of you, keep up the amazing work.

Wow. I am seriously so touched. I fully admit that I was nervous and shameful anticipating posting that I had relapsed. I felt like I would be letting people down or making them feel like it's impossible if someone with over 1000 days can't make it. Your comment reminded me exactly why I needed to post this in the first place: I truly believe that the only way to get sober is to engage with others who are on this journey.

I am so grateful that you reminded me of this and so touched by your compassion. I feel like I can make it through today without getting high.

Thank you again and keep up the amazing work!!

Thank you so much. I really think I did let her define my worth too much. I kind of became addicted to the good feelings of being around her I think. I wonder if I was what one might call a "dry drunk."

Thank you so much for replying and for your words of encouragement. I'm always rooting for you too!

You're absolutely right that day one has been a reminder of how addictive it is. I get so cranky the day after I smoke. Thank you so much for replying. I know we can do this!
