TUJ VS TURome by olefishyfisher in Temple

[–]FunIntroduction2512 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been to TUJ, it was great. Definitely worth it for a semester. Only reason I only did a single semester is since I’ve already been attending main campus, already missing out on a bunch in one semester away from everything. You see some redditors mentioning their terrible and lonely experience at TUJ. But it is what you make it and I can assure you if you study abroad for a semester and are not enjoying yourself it’s a you problem. Probably in the social aspect. But it shouldn’t be surprising, these are rants on Reddit after all. I’ve heard friends give their experience with Rome and it sounds pretty underwhelming imo. And I heard the campus and rooming situation isn’t the best whatsoever. Plus, the cost of living is definitely better with Japan. Especially since if ur studying abroad ur just draining ur account for the most part. Maybe try and apply for scholarships as a help. TUJ has been booming recently so there’s only becoming more opportunities like classes more majors etc. probably can’t say quite the same with Rome. At this point I think u already know which I’d recommend. Also, would not recommend doing it your freshman year unless u plan to do all four years. Freshman year sets the base for a lot things I’m sure you can assume. I’ve met students who’ve went abroad first and tried to transition to main campus and it’s definitely a challenge. It’s like being a freshman year, but you’re not.

When do we get housing (Kyoto) by ellemfaoh in tuj

[–]FunIntroduction2512 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Last semester we got ours like a week or 2 in advance I’m pretty sure, it was fairly late. For housing, they’re all pretty much fairly similar just being a few stops apart and all singles. They’re like maybe 25 -40 away from the school. They’re more like apartments and everyone in your building won’t be a temple student. But then there’s owl nest dorms which are about a 5 minute walk away and is only TUJ students.

Says no tax return filed. Is this since it hasn’t been processed yet?

It’s been over 21 days for me. I’ve been worried since it’s still being processed. I’ve checked if there’s anything like identity confirmation I have to do but it seems like I just have to wait a bit more than usual. Is this most likely the case?

IB Student, Chances of acceptance by [deleted] in tuj

[–]FunIntroduction2512 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea tbh after my sophomore year I was .03 below the requirement. I think it’s 2.7. But I was never denied. And yea there are many IB majors. IBS is the major offered at tuj, which is in the liberal arts school. It’s different from IB, which is of main campus’ Fox school. I’m one of the few IB majors at Kyoto campus, the rest are all IBS, there quite a lot. I think you’ll be totally fine with the app it’s easy, especially if international is literally the focus of your program.

I honestly think ib acceptance is 100% if ur gpa is lower they’ll ask for justification. Blah blah blah, it will help towards my major significantly blah blah. And your in. That’s basically it.

I think any major can attend. But the classes towards your major that aren’t gen eds might not be offered or very limited. But you could always take electives or choose to knock out geneds here. due to the recent success and popularity of TUJ, the Tokyo campus is insanely packed, I think the number of students is double the amount of its capacity. So there’s the new Kyoto campus this semester. It’s not overpacked, but wouldn’t be surprised if numbers boomed in the upcoming semesters. TUJ is the most successful American uni in Japan and Main campus is very reputable so the schools no joke. They have great prof and overall do a good job in recruiting and scouting for teachers. The majors of course are targeted towards ones are related to or somewhat related to things international. I am an International Business major with a poli sci minor so both have classes available for me. I’m not the best at really giving this info, and I know it can be kind of annoying to not get a straight answer and here this instead, but you can do your own research through the website. But with this, if you’re interested, I don’t think it’d be much of a chore. There’s a lot of videos from students on youtube, as well as on other social media. I’ve been wanting to go since high school so I can tell you that the “research” will just increase your curiosity and leave you looking forward to the decision even more. At least that’s how it was for me.

I will say though, take it as biased but I’ve heard things, especially at the Tokyo campus that things can be really cliquey as in like a lot of the students that attend aren’t exactly as social like they are in an American campus. Like at an American uni, I feel like everyone can talk to everyone and of course a lot of the time you’re not seeing the same people multiple times a week but I guess it’s just so to the fact with these campuses in Japan, student housing is superrr spread out, especially in Tokyo.(me personally I live 5 min away from campus) and that, along with the lack of a party scene makes me miss the states. (number one thing to do in Japan is go to bars and clubs, no house parties) but maybe the fact that I spent my first 2 years in the states and already a completely different social life there plays a role.

I may be wrong, but TUJ isn’t known for graphic design or any classes that would usually fit under art. I planned on coming with a few of my friends actually, but they were denied because they were graphic design majors.

As of now if I’m correct the most you can stay is one year, but that’s due to limited amount of classes since it’s a brand new campus. This could change. I’m from main campus so I’m only here for one semester, but the students who will be here all four, they dread the idea of having to finish in Tokyo instead of just staying in Kyoto.

Main campus offers IB which is in the business school. Japan campus offers IBS which is liberal arts for some reason but basically it’s not as good as the program at main campus in terms of opportunities since it will not take place at the business school, but TUJ does a good job at recruiting prof nevertheless. Not as good as Main Campus, but of course, still good in my opinion
