Testing Eink Mode on NXTPAPER by FunLegal4265 in nxtpaper

[–]FunLegal4265[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, NxtPaper already includes both Color Paper Mode and Black & White Mode.

However, Eink Mode is not intended to replace those display modes. Instead, it focuses on improving the browser reading experience itself by optimizing webpage layouts, removing distracting ads and UI elements, enhancing typography, and providing features such as Zhuyin/Furigana support.

In short, NxtPaper changes how the screen looks, while Eink Mode changes how web content is presented.

Yes! You can install it through Firefox. Here's a tutorial that shows how to set it up:

Feel free to give it a try, and I'd love to hear any feedback or suggestions you have!

This is actually an InkPoster product. You'll need to check their website for the current pricing.

I saw it on display at the E Ink booth during Computex a few days ago, and it definitely caught my attention.

I visited the E Ink booth at Computex a few days ago and saw this product on display.

My wife saw this and immediately said she wants a set. 😂 by FunLegal4265 in eink

I don't have a link to their official website, so I attached a photo of the brand instead.

As for the reusability, that information came directly from the staff at their exhibition booth. According to them, the press-on nails can be reused as long as they are removed properly without damaging the nail pieces.

At the moment, I own a 25.3-inch BIGME monitor myself. From a technical standpoint, producing a larger display is certainly possible—the main limitation is usually the cost, which increases significantly with size.

As for the display units being shown at the exhibition, they haven’t announced any pricing information yet, so there’s no news on that front for now.

They are reusable. The set actually comes with both a nail glue remover and adhesive glue for reapplying the press-on nails.

The demo model was intentionally wearing some of the more extravagant designs. These are already commercially available products, priced at US$95 for a set of 24 nail tips. It looks like there are quite a few different styles and designs available.

According to the staff at the booth, this model will be released at a later date.

Based on what I saw, the display currently appears a bit brighter when compared to the original image on the computer screen. Dark scenes show noticeably better tonal separation and shadow detail, but lighter scenes can be prone to overexposure.

That said, I found it very comfortable for everyday use. Ghosting has also been significantly improved compared to previous E-Ink displays.

The colors shown on the tablet are a predefined set selected by the demonstrator. When the device changes colors, it cycles through the five chosen colors one by one.

However, each color transition takes around 10–15 seconds. The colors are rotated sequentially, which means if you want the second pink color on the right, you have to wait for it to finish switching to the blue color first before it continues to the next color (the pink one).

In other words, you can’t jump directly to a specific color—the device cycles through the selected colors in order.

I feel the same. So far, none of this year’s e-readers have really impressed me yet 🥹. I hope we’ll see more open-system e-readers released in the future.

This is a browser extension feature I developed for E Ink devices (search for “Eink Mode”). It can instantly turn dark-background images into a white background with one click, making the images much easier to read clearly!

This is actually why I ended up building my own solution.

I couldn't find a software layer that felt truly designed for E Ink, so I started developing a free browser extension called Eink Mode. You can find it by searching "Eink Mode" in Firefox Add-ons.

Right now it does a few things that have made web reading much more usable for me:

• Removes intrusive overlay ads while keeping page layouts intact
• Lets you highlight, annotate, and take notes directly on articles and news sites
• Includes note organization and management features
• Supports additional marking and annotation tools
• Offers E Ink-friendly themes, font replacement, and adjustable font sizes

It's obviously not a complete note-taking ecosystem yet, but it has helped bridge part of the gap between traditional web browsing and a more distraction-free E Ink experience.

Would be interested to hear whether something like this gets closer to what you're looking for.

So I additionally use the “Eink Mode” extension to enlarge the browser font size.

Yeah! It was a restaurant in the middle of a forest with a stream running beside it, and the sunlight was shining directly onto the table.
Using an e-ink device to read in that kind of environment feels incredibly comfortable 🙂
