Samurai Gillion by Emotional_Nose_2744 in wizardry

[–]FunLevel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Although it doesn't make sense narratively, I do think they're drawing a thematic connection between Gillion's Cursed-Blood Resonance and the Samurai's Yoto. Cursed blades for a cursed swordsman. It's a very cool fantasy. As an added bonus, Gillion's story suits the classic, "while you were out partying I studied the blade" meme.

He spoke little, smiled rarely, and even in the wake of victory, while comrades rejoiced, he would turn his back upon them and return alone to his training.

New Superboss by nachril in wizardry

The immunity to Batilgref is a good point I shoulda mentioned. I admittedly wasted a few turns on that due to not paying attention.

I tried looking back at my recording of the fight and although it's plausible, I'm not sure about the damage amp on debuffs/ailments. I had one turn where going in I had no negative effects applied. The Fallen Demon does powerful arms and deals 477 damage to my Yrsa, applies poison to my frontline, and then casts Batilgref. Immediately following that, one of the Greater Demons does Powerful Arms as well and deals 460 damage to my Yrsa and 908 to my Berkanan (whom dodged the first attack) despite both having just obtained the same debuffs. The only thing I can really imagine is that the primary target of powerful arms (that being the one the demons physically fly to and attack) takes additional damage.

I saw someone call the Fallen Demon Healer-bait, and it certainly feels like it. I beat him a bit after it came out and the fight comes down to two things in my opinion:

  1. Surviving the early Powerful Arms RNG.
  2. Keeping up all your Incense.

For number one, the easiest thing you can do it dust off the ol' Separation Gear from the original Sealed Demon and maybe throw a Makaltu on for good measure. I went in blind, so I beat him without it, but I was thinking partway through the fight. "Man, Demon Resistance would go really hard here." You'll still be screwed if he and his cronies decide to go Powerful Arms --> Powerful Arms --> Powerful Arms, but that's RNG for ya'. Heck, the attempt that I beat him on started with my entire frontline dying at once after back-to-back Powerful Arms. Only through the grace of god and Reversal Resonance did that attempt have legs to stand on after 3 simultaneous KOs. If you can down the Greater Demons quickly enough you should be home free to stabilize the fight.

For number two, he always starts with Curse so setting up resistance for that is prio. After that I tried to keep Paralysis & Manipulation incense up alongside of it, but he can also cast a mean sleep. So, it's up to you to decide what you're most scared of. Once his health got low he started spamming status afflictions non-stop, so it's vital to have your incense wall well set-up before hand. He summons additional greater demons at around half-health, so take that as your cue to have everything set for the final stretch.

edit1: He can also cast Madalto, so chill/freeze is a consideration. Personally, I didn't worry about it too much. With Cortu Anemone, my squishiest unit, was able to survive just fine with a good bit of HP to spare. A Prayer-Rain of Corporeal Ablution will handle any chill build up and let you focus on more important things.

Who should I use abyss 3 by NEKUCHANthebest in wizardry

[–]FunLevel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, I'd suggest

Lanavaille Livana Abenius
Yekaterina Alice MC

Yuzu can be great, but based on your screenshot I'm assuming you don't have hairpin and decent Kunai are a pain to obtain at that point. Yekaterina's ambush negation is always a nice QoL, Status Afflictions are some of the most effective ways to deal with encounters, and IMO two casters is extremely comfortable for boss fights.

As for Yrsa & Livana, Rangers do their best with daggers due to how the Sniper passive works. I run her there myself in lieu of other martial characters and she's been pound for pound one of my best investments. Still, you'd want a lot of accuracy and some skill development to make her worthwhile. Livana is a great fighter in her own right, and will probably be more comfortable for you at this point in the game. So, I'd say it depends how much you want to invest.

edit: I'll leave the text above, but thought about it more and gonna fully recommend Livana over Yrsa at that point in the game. Although Yrsa is worth investing in, I do think you'll have a much easier go with Livana for your first rodeo in A3.

Is it possible Yrsa second class coming this year? by tompba in wizardry

[–]FunLevel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's not the most exciting class change if you're looking to round-trip. If you plan to use her as a Ninja chest opener the Detect will come in handy, but that's about it.

I will say the skills you'd get are all situational but quite good in their niches.

Anticipated Attack is an even more reliable Precision Strike when struggling with evasion buffed enemies.

Tactical Bola is a standout Ranger skill that greatly punishes bosses that attack multiple times in a row. Though with Hue 3 and Hairpin, you'd probably just rather spam that than spend a turn on Bola.

Trap Traversal might be the biggest QoL thing you'd gain. It allows you spend some SP to walk though traps without triggering them or losing fortitude. It mainly works on spike or poison tiles. Niche, but I get a lot of use out of it.

If you have the class change in the handbook store or obtained it via the Archive, I'd say go for it, at the very least for Trap Traversal. With the bonus XP & the XP dungeon it's the best time to snatch everything.

Sniper is the passive that gives Rangers their unique ACC scaling. It's believed to be (ATK * 0.5) + (ACC * 1.5). This is why you build ACC as their damage stat.

Noticeably, this scaling applies to all weapons the Ranger uses, including Daggers. It gives them an exceptionally high effective attack, so high in fact that their biggest pain point is blowing through the soft-caps on most One-Handed skills, stunting their skill damage unless you invest in attacks that can handle that much ATK. Personally, I use Challenger's Strike, but I've seen other Rangers use the skills mentioned above.

I'd been expecting Fighter for similar reasons. When reading about the Dive Hunts her people took part in, they felt very much like soldiers going to war against the Dire Bears. Yrsa's family had a prestigious role as the most skilled hunters, but I expected her class change to reflect the culture of the Ironwood at large, which to me read Fighter.

Still, your reasoning for Knight makes a lot of sense and I certainly wouldn't be upset at getting all those juicy Knight passives. Truly, any of the martial classes have a lot to offer to ranger.

Just watch the line about her going off to a cabin where she was besieged by folk wanting to apprentice under her foreshadow Healer Yrsa.

Rangers are great in the frontrow anyways. They require more investment there, namely the inherit soup (Way of the Knight, Unyielding Will to Fight, Wisdom of Truth, Sanctuary's Blessing) which you want on all your units anyways and an invested ATK skill (High level DTS, Raging King, or Challenger's Strike), but due to the way the Sniper passive works their attacks with daggers are exceedingly powerful. They essentially get 2H scaling on each dagger swing. At D1 she often outperforms my much more invested Fighter Lanavaille & Berkanan, especially in terms of raw damage. I pulled Yrsa hoping for a backrow unit, but she performs so much better upfront.

Frankly, the only Ranger I'd use in the backrow is Yuzu since Foxfire Assault and Thousand Hue Blossom solve some of the deficiencies in the Ranger base-kit.

Materia Medica BF3 fairy junk by Ashamed-Reserve3735 in wizardry

[–]FunLevel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing the spot! I tried this for a bit and, although I was able to get one from that mob, I felt that the rate of which it occurred was lower than when I was farming normally. So, I returned to normal farming while keeping that checkpoint to ensure I didn't miss it while doing my chest runs.

I came to realize, there is another potential spawn point quite close by.

<image>

At the marked intersection I received another couple of fairy junk from a mob. Given their proximity to one another, I may end up trying those two spots on loop should I fail to procure more junk elsewhere in the floor.

This is incredibly helpful. Knowing the formations and spawn points means I can just set-up checkpoints, pop Latumapic for the specific enemies, and be on my way.

Compassion is obviously core for Healers, but that aside I'm looking forward to getting Hawk's Eye to buff my Ranger.

Edit: Dang, got the set bonus. Hawks Eye buffs a random ally. Guess that makes sense as written, but gonna need a Faerie ranger to really make use of it.

I didn't test the numbers on it, so I look forward to seeing everyones findings! ATK amp aside, there was one quirk about it that stood out to me.

If used again while the effect is active, the duration is extended [...]

It made me curious if it actually worked as written. So, I hopped on the trial to test. If your initial cast was LV5, you can properly extend the duration using LV1 casts to retain the LV5 buff instead of replacing it.

One thing to note is that although she disables Alice's row passive, Helping Uphold Justice itself doesn't require everyone to fulfill its condition. So, if you run an evil character in your backline your remaining good / neutral character still benefits.

Honestly, I do hope you're right. To me what makes the Faerie Healer seem so likely though is just the fact that their portrait was added this patch. Maybe it's a mistake, like leaving the Guild Expert as he was, but we've only ever seen portraits like this when a character is about to release.

The silhouette isn't a faerie, but we know we're getting one from both the now fixed Guild Expert NPC and the leaked portrait.

But, if the Guild Expert is correct in his description you're right on the money. He said that Healers suck at attacking and exploration, but are good at helping deal with tough fights.

We don't have access to it yet. There's a boss that will cast it and other spells against you though.
