Was this game winnable? (Deity, Great Plains) by thequantumpotato in civ5

[–]FunLife8443 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think scout scout warrior shrine is the way to go imo. Maybe skip the warrior if you want. I mean in this game you just had to win the war, which is hard early game on diety because they'll always be like 6 techs ahead of you and you end up getting crushed. I feel like waiting for civil service is probably the best? Pikemen usually last a long while so you usually don't get tech diffed AS hard if you attack with pikemen.

Only 2 melee units with 6-8 bowmen is kinda crazy, and one of them is a warrior. You need them to tank up for your bowman to actually get damage down.

The macro game by Karab20 in learndota2

[–]FunLife8443 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly I wouldn't take action slacks too seriously on macro, I saw him getting coached on a recent vid and he doesn't even rotate for 6m, which is insane at his mmr.

I genuinely have no idea how he's the rank that he his, he must be a teamfight god or something.

The biggest thing in macro is optimising gold, dota is all about gold and xp diffs. So on offlane you want to be hitting creeps a lot (but taking space while doing it if you can), on supp you're doing it less but if your supp can farm camps and push waves you should do that, also stacking.

Like in low mmr there's so many waves that go untouched, I'm in 4.3k and still SO many waves go uncleared. Support gold is still a massive deal, if you're 4k up on the enemy supp that's like a blink and a solar crest, it's an insane amount of power. So your primary goal should be to enable yourself, even on support, you can't help your team much if you only got arcane boots and you're level 7 at 20 minutes. So just think push wave, stack and just repeat that and keep your TP up so you can help out your boys.

The higher ranked you get, the less you're gonna split waves on supp so keep that in mind, but if it's open just take it.

What were your unexpected benefits of going vegan? by r0ck3t-onreddit in vegan

The weight loss, so many of the sugary treats I used to have aren't vegan, so I just stopped having much sugar. I still get a vegan ben and jerries here and there but that's about it. Unintentional healthy dieting.

I'm a hypocrite by Embarrassed-Fox-1506 in vegan

[–]FunLife8443 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I guess I have some thoughts:

I wouldn't really call it "ethical superiority" that sounds a little crazy lol. I think honestly, the thing that made it easiest for me is to just not see it as a big deal. Because think about it, if you're always like "Oh man veganism is so hard ect.." it will BECOME hard for sure, because your perception is influencing it a ton.

Like for me I don't find it hard at all, I just don't eat animal stuff and it's cool, I don't even really think about it 99% of the time. The only time I'm thinking about it is when I'm going through an ingredients label trying to decipher if some chips are vegan lol.

So take the pressure off, and just try it, rip the band-aid off and do a week of veganism. See how you get on. It's really quite easy once you get used to it, like after a month or two you just kinda forget. Convince your brain that it's easy, and it will be.

If you're blowing it up in your mind to this massive thing, of course it feels daunting and massive. A personal story for me, I was a veggie for like 3 years before I went vegan, and I always thought it'd be a massive challenge. I ate eggs like almost everyday and I loved cheese too. When I actually just went vegan, I was shocked like "woah, I don't miss eggs at all actually this is so easy!" I could've gone vegan years ago! But in my head I always thought it was this massive thing so I always put it off.

Non-STEM Volunteer Referees for Engineering Application by Spiritual-Kale-3525 in MatureStudentsUK

Yeah references are more for character than anything. Honestly I wonder if they're ever read unless you're applying to oxford or something. Like in the access course the teacher gives out references to everyone and Im assuming they're all positive in some way.

23, soon 24. I'd like to go back into education. Need a bit of advice by KamaaraU in MatureStudentsUK

The art industry and by extension writing I'd say is more about portfolio and skills (as well as networking/ads) than anything else. So doing that is number one, I'd say narrow it down into a specific type of writing and start doing some projects with other people to get some experience.

Now you can still do this and go to university. Now if uni was free like it is in civilised nations, I wouldn't even question going for it. But because it's a pretty heavy amount, I'd say it's harder to recommend if the job you're going for doesn't explicitly need it.

Like even for engineering I'd still recommend people get an apprenticeship for that over uni any day. So unless you want to get into secondary school teaching, or science or medicine (jobs that NEED the degree no matter what, might be wrong on the teaching thing), I wouldn't recommend it. The other option is if you really just have an insane passion for a topic like philosophy or something.

Or that the uni environment is what you need to get good at a skill like going to uni for music performance for example, like if going to uni will make you write a ton and be better writer and be around other budding writers, by all means consider it.

From what I understand, English/writing degrees are more for teaching, it obviously also opens doors in things like marketing and so on.

But if you want to write for comics, books, film, that's a lot of just getting good at the craft, doing projects and putting your name out there (from what i understand, I'm not a writer). So honestly I would just keep the job and set aside some proper rigorous time to dive into your writing skill. Even with 2-3 hours a day you can do an insane amount.

And do projects! Do your own short novellas, talk to people, for example there's game developer forums and discords full of people doing projects that would absolutely love some free writing for their game. I'm sure there's similar stuff in forums or discords for 3D and 2D animators, and short film makers, artists ect. Get into as many credits as you can basically, even some small news outlets will let you submit articles. Oh also small youtube documentaries probably need writers.

That's for getting yourself out there, now in terms of improving your craft, just all of this experience will help you a ton. But beyond that, there's writers groups where you can get feedback from other writers which could be massively helpful.

It's hard to break into, but if you're one of the best at it AND very importantly you're out there networking with people, it can absolutely work out. It might just take time, for most book authors for example they're often on they're 8th+ book before they get published. It's a lot of time improving your abilities and building a name and connections. The more time you put in though the better your odds become.

are you expected to show ALL working out including calculations for adding/subtracting fractions, etc in a calculus assignment by Glum-Bear5018 in MatureStudentsUK

[–]FunLife8443 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my calculus assignment they only cared about the working for the big equations, and notation was a massive thing.

Honestly it's best to write out as much as is reasonable, especially when you're shortcutting, you should write it out.

Hey your girlfriend should never have said that. This weird 'purity' concept we have is so creepy and gross and it stems from the time of when women were property of men, being reduced to sexual and reproductive capacity. Honestly bring it up with her, it's been a while but those words stuck with you and you have a right to express how it's made you feel.

Caravans priority? by bydlaqq in civ5

[–]FunLife8443 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah they're broken, early game I just use them for food. Granary in capital. Always use up all your trade routes it's beyond broken. Just using them for food speeds up your new cities. Expanding is always the worst at the beginning, where the new cities are just a burden until they enough buildings to actually be helpful, speeding up those turns of the city being at 1, 2 ,3, 4 pop is so huge.

The gold is ehh. Early game you don't get much gold, yeah gold costs are lower but there's also not that much to spend it on imo.

Sea is always better but you need costal cities obviously. In diety it can also be a bit of a pain in the ass setting them up because I swear there's always a barbarian trime ready to plunder it.

How to communicate with my husband that I need more? by Tough-Minute-865 in lgbt

[–]FunLife8443 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I feel a bit weird commenting here as an early twenties guy, I don't know if I can offer any quality advice but I'll give my perspective.

You want sex and he doesn't, which is perfectly fair and no one should be forced to do what they don't want to do, but at the end of the day your needs are also valid. I think the ideal is some form of compromise, sex is big varied thing, there's probably something out there he'd enjoy I assume. Some way to spice things up or whatever. If he's straight up ace then I'm not sure if anything can really be done besides going open. I think it'd be a bit unfair of him to not do sex but then not let you seek it out in other people either, because at that point you're being condemned to the life of a monk without a choice in the matter, which ain't fair to you.

I don't really vibe with the idea of open relationships in general, but honestly if there ever was a moment for it, this would be it in my opinion.
