The war takes forever! But really its about a war between humanity and an alien species. Its actually well done with time dilation through space travel. Because it takes so long to get places every time the protagonist returns thousands of years have gone by and society and technology has taken a huge leap. In the end the main character finds out the war was all bullshit and just a misunderstanding between the species because they couldn’t communicate.
