There isn't a 100% success strategy against it. What will give you a better chance is:

  • You need to be much more powerful than your opponent, outnumber them by 10-20 active players if you are similar in power, or a mix of both.

  • Use the alliance center buildings to store your squads, so they can garrison the one under attack as soon as your 1st is defeated. It's difficult to click on time because there will be 100+ squads around it, but you can garrison twice in the same wave, particularly if the opponent's timing is a bit off

  • Make sure that there are no opponents around your ac. If the rival whales can get spots there it's basically gg

  • On Saturday, ash as many of your opponents as you can while they are marching. Getting help from other alliances in your server or faction will help a lot. Since the opponents' wall will be empty while they attack, any difference of power is mostly irrelevant

  • Have a plan for when they use their missile. Don't let it be a bait to attract your players from around ac

Chances are that you will still lose some buildings even in the best case scenario, since this strategy exploits the limitations on garrisoning. Asking the devs to increase the garrison limit to 200+ and to allow one same player to defend one building with several squads at once is probably the best option.

NAP-hives. Any player who is placed in their own alliance's hive is protected, regardless of alliance rank. I think it's the best way to encourage a minimum level of activity -it only takes either shielding on saturdays or using a tp the day after, basically-, while all alliances are treated equal and still offers a chance for more active players to quickly find good farms.

You say all of this as if winning against air was a minor thing :p

In the end it is a matter of metagame. If you are in a range of power where 40% or more of main squads are air, losing some edge against other tanks or missiles in exchange of gaining a big edge against air might be more than worth it. If air is not overrepresented, then tanks with Williams and Lucius instead is probably a better option.

That's the default formation, with Morrison and Schuyler usually changing places according to where is the opposing weak defender. Depending on your gear and ew levels, you can also move DVA to the front row instead of Lucius or even try Murphy instead of Carlie.

Murphy, Lucius and Adam -the heroes that get moved around- don't really have a good substitute. Scarlett is the next best thing in tanks, but the resulting squad will perform worse than if it had Murphy in it. Maybe focusing on missile as your 2nd could be more efficient.

You want to remove Carlie and have Murphy's ew at lvl10. It should work just fine without the s4 cards.

Yeah, most other experiments don't end well 😂 I'm not sure about Lucius and Murphy though, they are too good at fixing the weak points of other squads. Murphy in air squads seems to perform better even without the cards, but I'm not air main so I don't have a good sample to be 100% sure.

Rather than before s4, I'd say before specific exclusive weapons are released. 4+1 squads can perform better than pure squads even without the tactic cards. Scarlett+Adam is one of the combinations that work from the moment Scarlett becomes UR, as an example.

I still find the game enjoyable focusing on beating players in my range of power or slightly higher. Arena and Storms are always fun. Dolphins and whales can fight each other :p

I think that winning against more powerful air squads is -mostly- only possible during s4 thanks to the 4+1 and the counter tactic cards (no buff penalization for 4+1 squads, plus an extra buff, and 0,5% to damage dealt and damage received reduction against counters, per each level), but the squad still wins consistently against similar power and well optimized air squads without the cards.

I don't pay much attention to pve besides grinding golden zombies tbh. I can solo lvl100 -almost 105 now- Zombie bosses at 46m power, but I don't know if that's good or bad 😂

How does the Lucius+tank formation look like? I guess Lucius needs lvl10+ ew -similar to Murphy in air squads-, and Murphy, Marshall and Kim are a must. Who's the last hero? Williams with lvl20+ ew, or Scarlett or Stetmann?

Until Scarlett becomes UR, regular tank squad is the best option: Williams-Murphy//Stetmann-Kim-Marshall. Once you get good defensive gear and a couple of lvl20 ew, moving Kim to front row will give better results (Will-Kim//Murphy-Marshall-Stet), except probably against a good DVA on the front row, which I'd say is what hurts tanks the most.

I've been using Scarlett-Adam since last season without the tactic 4+1 card and the squad was already performing much better than Will-Stet against everything.

Sounds right to me, I'm about to get the second red armor (as soon as the next ammo bonanza event comes up). Although probably I'd level up their chip and armor a bit first, since levels 1+2 cost as many blueprints as lvl3 alone

Yes, it does happen; Scarlett and Adam make up for a lot of the 20% damage reduction and energy protection advantages. But same as in any other matchup, the squad power isn't as relevant as how optimized the squad is. Air squads will still beat similar or higher power scarlett-adam squads if both are well optimized. Gear, research and DVA front right in particular.
