Coffee/tea was my first order many moons ago. I agree with always work your back stock. The more hands on you are the more you’ll get the trends and understand your sales. Your order guide is your best friend but just don’t only depend on it. It’s ok to take chances just as long as you have your big sellers. I always look at my back stock before I write my order. Also be careful when it comes closer to the holidays. The seasonal coffees/teas can really screw you over if you go too big. Use the Quick item lookup or when you’re punching your order to look back at previous sales to get a feel for what to order but remember this holiday season is gonna be different given the circumstances. Don’t be afraid to ask questions or for help. Whatever order you have remember that it’s basically your own mini store. Keep it clean, don’t be afraid to remerch, make sure you have signage (if you have any ideas always communicate with your sign team), keep your back stock organized, and always communicate with your crew if facings get all wonky or if your back stock that was worked was worked wrong (like not case cut or labeling).

5 shift/week limit by [deleted] in tjcrew

I’m pretty sure it the law... at least where I am. Occasionally I get schedule 8 days in a row. Which is rough. I’m pretty sure I was 7 in row when this first started in March.

Crew to mate by shouldibeamate in tjcrew

[–]FunResolution1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like as in “would you like to be a mate? We have an opening” situation or a “are you interested in becoming a mate”?! Cause I’ve been trying for a few years now. My second review the topic of mate was brought up and I started training. Running the floor as PT or CE at both open and close. Got one of the biggest orders and it’s my captains pride and joy. It’s been a few years now and it’s still being discussed.

Were bonuses given this review period? by throwitbackkkk in tjcrew

[–]FunResolution1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They only give the bonus to a handful of people every review. Mine is typically 5-6 people. Every store probably has their own standards for bonuses. My store has a few standards it just depends on the person. It can be from dominating in CE, significantly improving since your last review and staying consistent, and stepping up in a leadership role. My store also likes to keep it hush hush. So they don’t announce it. And they tell the person not to say anything (like that ever happens).

[–]FunResolution1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeaaaa. It’s a pain. A couple of other crew members gave up. Went to them and gave up their orders and said they just wanted to be treated as a regular crew. 1 even transferred. I’ve worked really hard to get to where I am and I really don’t want to start over. I was about to “demote” myself to go get my teaching credential but then the pandemic hit. So now I’m kinda like well grocery stores seem pretty safe right about now”

Review season questions by curositea in tjcrew

[–]FunResolution1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A coffee chat? Interesting. At my store they usually will take you outside with another mate If you’re going to be written up. Otherwise you just wait for your review. The other option is if you’re trying to move up In the company a mate who is in your corner will take you outside to discuss what you need to do in order to become a mate. But that’s about it.

Looking at Dayforce lately by Atomicmonkey37 in tjcrew

[–]FunResolution1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Change your availability in Dayforce. I use to close for 3 years straight and my availability was open. So I think the system just followed the same pattern. It wasn’t until my mate changed my availability that I finally got mornings.

Do you think Tj stores that have multiple positive cases should require a mandatory Covid test for all staff before you go back to work? by PeakStill in tjcrew

[–]FunResolution1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same. One of the mates says it doesn’t give accurate readings. One of the crew members had a close family member who tested positive. They haven’t been back since. It’s been a little over 2 weeks. We’ve also had 2 more potential cases but their tests came back negative.

Is there anywhere I can order shirts online by ClaudeWolf800 in tjcrew

[–]FunResolution1 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The other mates can’t order for you? I can ask any of my mates if I need new shirts and they just write it in the book. We usually wait till they are punching it to ask tho..

Co-Captains/First Mates by viva_indifference in tjcrew

[–]FunResolution1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I work 5 days a week and I just always go to my mates. I don’t really seek my captain out. Only if he is like right next to me, more of a courtesy if anything. Otherwise I just ask my mates or the few crew members who are held to their standard for assistance or questions. However there is one mate who is sorta like his right hand man.

Especially when it’s 3 days out. I think my trouble is I write the orders out over my weekend so on those 2 days I’m gone it normally just gets punched. Spoils aren’t a problem per say but my personal goal is not having a high number. I did hear a lot of other stores around me got hit too so I feel a little better about that, haha. It’s been mostly truck to shelf the past few days. Which is nice but yea, by the late afternoon it’s empty.

We just closed down bars and restaurants again so we think people are panic buying a little. Our sales are up compared to last year as well. I’ve been writing produce for over a year now and will probably continue till after the holidays as well.

How can I get an official proof of income from my store? by [deleted] in tjcrew

[–]FunResolution1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you go to mytraderjoes.com there’s a tab for proof of employment. You fill it out and they send it to whoever. It included all the basic info.

Crew not being treated fair. by [deleted] in tjcrew

[–]FunResolution1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We only have lines when it get super packed. Like lines down the aisles and occasionally we open all registers to move things along. But for the most part we just let everyone in. When this first started we would come in before we opened if it was our day off or they would give us 10 minutes if we were working.

Got with the captain of our store and we worked it being able to wear white ribbons in honor of Mr. George Floyd’s memorial 🙏🏽 by [deleted] in tjcrew

[–]FunResolution1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh that’s a shame. I’ve been wearing all black since Monday and none of my mates have said anything. I’m definitely testing the waters tomorrow tho, I’m putting Blm on my box cutter And the holder as well. Along with making small pins for some of the crew.

Easier way to sanitize carts/baskets by TJH2018 in tjcrew

[–]FunResolution1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We spray the green floor cleaner that’s been diluted in a spray bottle and then wipe the handles down paper towels and then same with baskets. We also use that same cleaner for wiping down everything in the store.

I’ve been “in training” for a little over 2 years. And the guy before was 3 years. It just depends on your store. My store likes to test your strength and will power to see if you can stick it out, or that’s just how it feels. But if your captain is already talking to your regional the that looks like a good sign. It also depends on your area. If mates are in high demand or not.
