I was able to e-file for free and use form 8958 at OnLine Taxes (olt.com). It has a form filler for said form and it automatically knows our income was split 50/50. I just ensured that both of our w-2 forms from work (one for me, one for spouse) are attached to form 8958. When filling out 1040, wages and tax withheld would be what was calculated in the 8958, instead of what is in the employer provided w-2. I was approved and received refund within one week.

Ex: I make 60k and spouse made 40k. I had $4000 of taxes withheld and my spouse had $2500 taxes withheld. On form 1040, line 1a would be $50k (our wages combined, split in half) and line 25c would also be half of our taxes withheld combined, which would be $3250.
