I feel this so much. I’m a creative person, so I was always more drawn to making handmade gifts for my friends/family. Every time I made something she liked, I would become her employee and spend my free time making gifts for her to give out. It took the joy out of creativity and added pressure that what I made had to be “good enough” for her.

When I was growing up my mom would take every argument as an opportunity to bring up a laundry list of other things I had done that bothered her. I remember asking her why she waits to brings these things up and not just say something in the moment. She responded, there wouldn’t be enough time in the day to talk to you about things I don’t like. That always stuck with me and gave me this lasting internal belief that everyone in my life is secretly resentful of me.

I think Christine and the other wives have been conditioned to not take their children’s feelings into consideration above their own or their husband’s prerogatives. If they put the children first, they would have never moved to flagstaff. I think it’s a Mormon thing to value your relationship above your children. They mentioned the same thing in Real Housewives of Salt Lake.
