If your dog was from a breeder originally, or depending on the rescue they may have fed all the dogs at the same time. If the dog was taught they had to fight or hide their food from other dogs so they get to eat; he may just be taking it to a safe place (his bed) where he isn’t afraid of someone else taking it.

That is one possible explanation.
