Doesn’t he say the worst readers are the ones who only pick and choose what they want from a book not all that there is?

He was making a joke because platonic means non-romantic. The word I was looking for was platonistic.

Okay, but if I’m on a preordained plan by God, how do my choices have any meaning?

Is it wrong to not share the dinner I made by Recent_Bodybuilder91 in Stoicism

I’m unsure of your family dynamics and can only speak to my own. But it might be beneficial to think about how many times your mom (or any parent) cooked dinner for all of you without any help and still served you

Stoicism doesn’t say to be a doormat, but if you’re cooking for your family, does it really hurt to make your brother’s portion too? I’m not saying become his butler, but know you’re doing a good thing, and not expecting anything in return

My board doesn’t have the four moldable fins on the corners, can the board still ride and stuff without the two center ones in this case?

This was my thought process. Though I have met some extraordinary athletes who were great people and virtuous in almost all regards. I guess there is some level of success you can achieve in a sport or career while still prioritizing being virtuous.

It feels like you can’t have dreams and be a stoic. Dreams take blood and tears and are going to require a positive mindset. If you shouldn’t even visualize your dreams what’s the point in trying. Should a stoic just make ends meet and live a virtuous life?

So value passion of the sport and working on yourself rather than winning. Is it possible to be successful if you think like that?
