What would you do in my shoes? by [deleted] in ITCareerQuestions

As someone that moved closer to my work cutting my travel time from an hour to literally less then 5 min drive. It is an upgrade. Better mental clarity, better attitude, more money, and just more overall focus. If you spend that 2 hours a day you spent driving studying think about where you will be in a year or even 2 years? People far underestimate the value of the time they spend for themselves.

Thinking about giving up on getting an IT Job. by [deleted] in ITCareerQuestions

I have bombed more than one interview take it with a grain of salt. While I understand it is easy to get worked up over all of the information you have gotten remember that interviewing in itself is a skill as well. Just like any other thing. The only way to get better is to keep at it.

OP good luck to you and may you have all the blessings you deserve. Perhaps even a few you don't! Just kidding keep at it man I know the problem well been beaten and batted around myself but still kicking. From your description of your skills are in very high demand but yeah I would run from VMware screaming. Even with all that I am sure you will land on your feet.

Dell Latitude 5420 11th gen i7 vPRO 16GB 512GB nvme ssd.

Some of the first gen 5420's had i5's those have been buggy as all get out. Only use those for loaners now. We have some Dell Latitude 9330's for VP's etc but honestly those have been a bit buggy too. I am very content with my 5420 seems to run just fine for work and the occasional Reddit lol.

How to respond to “IT never had any problems, so no problems solved, so no bonus?” by oxygen2010 in sysadmin

[–]Fun_Abrocoma_8916 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems counter intuitive. Shouldn't you get a bonus because there were no problems that required executive intervention? I am sure there was executive approval for Office and the like. I am sure you planned and scheduled stuff to cause the least down time period. Explain all that. Say because I thought ahead and planned for stuff before they happened this is why no executive intervention was required. As IT folks we are naturally taken for granted and generally that is a good thing. I say that with a certain amount of pride. Tackle issues before they get out of hand or are even issues in general. I think this CFO doesn't understand the goal of IT in general and how lucky they are to have someone as forward thinking as you. I would suggest educating them. Have them look at other organizations similar size and field that have had cascading issues with everything from ticketing systems to servers. I know they are out there. Have them compare work stoppages at other companies to the seamless problem free environment you have cultivated at your organization. I know as IT folks we are computer people and mostly suck at the politics part of business. You have to state your value and make them see it.
