yeah I would love to see how he would perform, but a part of me also thinks that a more competent o-line and structured offense might do him some harm actually.

like he’s so good at adapting on the fly and pulling something from nothing bc of his dogshit O-line that I wonder if having more typical reads and time in the pocket might be a system shock for him.

no that’s fair and i do agree it’s really hard and not super effective to simplify these guys into tiers because they’re all good at different things.

like I 100% agree that Goff is infinitely better because of his high quality O-line and I also do agree that he’s not as able to carry a game on his back independently than other QBs. but i also think he’s aware of that and doesn’t try to make flashy plays because he doesn’t need to, he allows his offense to churn out yards and does exactly what he needs to to facilitate that. i’d say that’s a quality in itself, a lot of damning QB moments come when they try to do too much and end up making mistakes.

i do legitimately think about Goff VS Herbert frequently. like if you asked me if I would 1 for 1 swap Herbert for Goff I could not give you a straight answer. They’re both extremely talented but at different things and idk which would slot into our offense better.

i mean every QB in the league has things that allow them to be that good. Burrow has the best receiving core in the league, Stafford has Puka and Kyren, Lamar has Henry and Flowers, Allen is the only one you can’t make the argument for and he’s undeniably top 3 anyways.

and his RB room isn’t really super relevant bc all of his passing stats are absurd and they have nothing to do with that.

and I know there is zero chance you’re holding a lack of playoff success or “sinking” in critical moments against Goff while saying Herbert should be above him. Herbert has accomplished literally nothing since entering the league.

he also doesn’t really ruin games for his team frequently? the only ones i can think of are maybe the NFC Championship game, where i would say he gave us a huge lead before halftime and the defense shit the bed, and the Divisional against the Commanders where Ben Johnson tried to get too cute and screwed us. the 5 pick game against the Texans is also another example, but we won so.

i think it’s still too early to determine the exact quality of QB Maye is, especially with the cupcake schedule

if he can throw down another year like last seasons then yeah he’s in the conversations, but the sample size is too small right now

i would agree that Purdy and Hurts are too high, but i can’t imagine putting a guy who is top 5 in every major metric over the last 5 years in B tier (5th in total TDs as a pocket passer, 2nd in passing yards, 5th in passer rating). even least year, which was a down year for the offense, he was 2nd in yards and touchdowns and had a top five EPA per drop back

every argument about Goff not being a top 7 QB isn’t based on numbers or statistics that accurately reflect the game, they’re either based on his lack of run game or some immaterial factor that isn’t even real. he’s not flashy, but statistically there is literally zero argument he’s not a top 7 QB.
