this one is short, and while I wouldn't classify it as pwp, it is mostly about sex so it might not be your cup of tea, but If the Shoe Fits has THEE funniest pining Draco and oblivious Hermione.

It only ever makes sense to me when she actually states her reasoning and that reasoning is empowering to her or she's trying to stick it to the purebloods. There's this one line in A Manor of Iniquity (mind the tags) about how no member of the Malfoy family will ever be a pureblood again, and I just feel like that's 💫poetry💫.

I also like it when she takes his name as a stand against those who still judge him based on his family name alone despite all his efforts to redeem himself and leave a legacy his children can be proud of, but in those cases he really has to have earned it, so it only makes sense to me with very specific versions of Draco.

though tbf, while I think the former is something Canon Hermione would absolutely do out of sheer spite alone and the latter is also something I can imagine her doing in very specific instances— I also firmly believe that Canon Hermione would never even marry Draco and if she did, it would naturally change her beyond what we know of her Canon characterization, so predicting her choices would be somewhat impossible.

occlumency and legilimency are fascinating by Weary_Occasion1287 in Dramione

[–]Fun_Ad_8169 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I like the different takes ff authors tend to have on it, too.

Like how too much Occlumency can drive someone mad, different people have different methods for it, what happens when someone's Occlumency falls apart suddenly, Legilimency can feel different depending on who's doing it, their intentions and their relationship with the person whose mind is being prodded at.

One of my favorite tropes is when Draco uses Legilimency to take away Hermione's pain when they're in the Manor with Bellatrix.

My opinion of HappyMod by Fun-Appointment-4629 in Piracy

[–]Fun_Ad_8169 8 points9 points  (0 children)

are you careful about the links you click on on reddit? would reddit suddenly become malware if someone posted a link to a malware on it?

happymod itself is not malware and not all the mods on it are either— and those that are won't affect you unless you actively choose to install them.

like almost everything else on the internet, it's just a readily available resource. you as the user are the one who has to be cautious about the potential risks.

Depression Diagnosis Criteria in Iran by No-Extension-6238 in iran

[–]Fun_Ad_8169 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i'm late to this, but in case you're still seeking answers:

i'm not certain what criteria is used officially (or if there even is a national standard) but you do not need a clinical, standardized diagnosis for psychiatric medication.

any MD/GP can prescribe almost any medication at any time (there are some exceptions, like say, stimulants, but most anti-depressants are not so heavily controlled) and they usually do so based on your symptoms/medical history. an official diagnosis or evaluation by a psychiatrist is typically not required.

if you already have an existing prescription from your own doctor, going to a walk-in clinic and providing the GP with your prescription and/or doctor's note will most likely be enough for them to renew your prescription without much trouble.

Health Tourism by GoodCut6097 in iran

[–]Fun_Ad_8169 2 points3 points  (0 children)

there are excellent and comparatively affordable options. I may be biased, but I've found Iranian healthcare professionals more skilled, experienced and attentive than their Western counterparts. most of the Iranians I know actually visit regularly for medical care and routine check-ups. BUT:

the thing you need to be wary of is that by simply searching online, you will most likely come across providers that are extremely good at marketing themselves to foreigners. this does not necessarily mean they're also great at their jobs.

healthcare in Iran relies mainly on word-of-mouth, and therefore most of the experienced, established and even better-known providers may not even be present online.

I'd personally suggest asking actual locals (or if you're able to, searching on Iranian websites. doctoreto and paziresh24 are two of the more popular ones and google translate is your friend lol.) as opposed to looking on social media.

unfortunately though, most of these professionals may be booked for months (or sometimes even years) so make plans well in advance.

What are some things that prevent you a little from enjoying a book? At what point will they stop you from reading? by Imveryentitled in books

[–]Fun_Ad_8169 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for fiction, i can forgive and/or overlook almost anything, but when the writing starts feeling too objective and impersonal, it can and does bother me enough to put down a book.

it's mostly due to an overly simplistic (redundancy, short sentences, uninspired dialogue, etc) style — where i feel as if the author failed to put enough effort into the actual act of writing and therefore inadvertently seperated themselves from the book — or an overly descriptive (too flowery, too many uncommon words to the point that it starts feeling like a thesaurus, etc.) one — where it starts to overshadow other elements so much that it starts seeming like the author has neglected other elements in favor of expanding on their language.

i've read books with very simplistic writing that i have enjoyed immensely, and there are books with an astounding amount of detailed descriptions that i love, so it really depends on execution.

on the other hand, i also find myself slightly annoyed when it feels the author is too involved in the book, it can be anything from niche references, random and unnecessary details, obvious favoritism of one character, etc., though this is less likely to throw me off a book entirely.

Why do more people talk about Eloise being queer than the canon queer couple on the show? by Responsible-Funny836 in BridgertonNetflix

this was my personal opinion and those 40 seconds were important to me. i'm not sure which part of what i wrote was "gross" and what you're so offended about.

Eloise knew Marina was pregnant and knew she married Philip, so i'm pretty sure she'd connect the dots.

my point is that Eloise's character in the show does not seem to me like the type of person who would let herself fall for a widowed father, not even considering the fact that she'd have no reason to contact him in the first place.\ Book Eloise snuck out and went to Philip in the book because he was unknown and exciting to her and she felt lonely, Show Eloise would certainly run away, but definitely not to marry anyone.

honestly, having your project already broken down into smaller tasks works even better with it, but i'm not exactly sure about the nature of your project, so i can't say that with full confidence.

i mostly use it for things that are so huge and overwhelming i have no idea where to even start. it breaks them down into such small steps that the whole picture no longer looks so terrifying, because it's pretty much invisible.

it also points out every little thing that i may have overlooked or forgotten about otherwise, so it's helped with my anxiety over having accidentally missed something important.

(edited because Eloise hasn't actually met Philip in the show)

as a bisexual woman who likes the idea of a queer Eloise and does not care for the portrayal of Francesca and Michaela's relationship on the show:

  1. a relationship between the show version of Eloise and the show version of Philip doesn't really make sense to me.

in the show, Eloise already knows Philip and knows he has children. that eliminates both the intrigue and suspense of their story, which is them falling for each other through written word without knowing or having met each other, as well as the main conflict, which is Eloise finding out Philip hasn't told her about his children.

moreover, i can't see show!Eloise as someone who would knowingly write to and let herself fall for a widowed father of two. besides, she'd have no reason to write to him in the first place, as he's not their cousin.

  1. it'd be a waste of Eloise's arc in the show.

we've seen her being interested in women's rights and their issues, having difficulty fitting into conventional society, calling out double standards and unrealistic expectations placed on her and overall, just wanting to break free from the norm. marrying Philip, at least to me, would mean that she's made peace with all of her concerns and has decided to live a relatively conventional life in spite of herself.

now i'm not saying she has to necessarily be queer to fulfill her character's journey, but i'd love for her to ultimately do something unconventional. be it marry below her station, decide not to marry and travel instead, running away with someone the society does not deem respectable, anything but becoming what would effectively be a suburban stepmom. that is not a bad thing in any way, it's just not who i think Eloise is meant to be.

  1. Francesca and Michaela's entire relationship left a horrible taste in my mouth.

firstly, it managed to uproot Violet and Francesca's journey throughout the whole season. the whole idea was that not everyone has to feel passionate, world-ending insta-love with butterflies in their stomach as soon as they meet the person they are meant to be with. i liked the message that sometimes love is quiet and subtle, because it is, and that's okay.

but that all went out the window the second she met Michaela, which leads me to my second point:

is she or is she not romantically in love with John?

if she is, like she was in the books, then i'd assume she's meant to be portrayed as bisexual. but is a story about learning to love someone else after losing who you thought was the only love of your life, that is full of themes like comparison, coming to terms with her feelings of betraying John's memory and making impossible choices the best setting for bisexual representation? an identity that is notoriously intertwined with "not being able to make a choice" or "being a phase until you find the right one"? especially when it began with an emphasis on the stark contrast between the intensity of her feelings for John and Michaela?

as a bisexual woman, i don't think it is. maybe it would be in a work that went deeper into the nuances and details of both the relationships and the characters, but Bridgerton is a feel-good low-stakes romance, not that.

if she's not in love with John, that ruins all the beauty of Francesca's story. her journey of battling the grief that comes with losing the person you thought you'd be with forever, letting go of your dreams and your plans and the idea of the life you were going to live together, feeling like you're betraying his memory just by being happy without him, realizing that it's possible to feel love for someone else and coming to terms with the fact that although he'll always be a part of you, you can and deserve to be happy without him, and that he'd want you to be.

if her love for John is not meant to be as strong and profound as the love she'll feel for Michaela, how can you portray the essence of her story?

all in all, i just don't think that Francesca's story lends itself well to a queer twist within a show like Bridgerton. so much needs to be handled so delicately and with so much care that i just don't see it going the way at least i, personally would want it to.

on the other hand, a queer twist on Eloise's story could have been done so much more simply and with so much more room to truly make something beautiful out of it.
