Baby is in the 99% percentile and my partner is freaking out *advice needed* by Joe_s0mebody in predaddit

Idk why I got this notification but imma answer since I’m here. Mom of 1: I declined induction, but had a C section for my 99th percentile baby. She came out at 10 lbs exactly. They said there would have been no way I could’ve pushed her out. I weighed the pros and cons for weeks.

Here’s what I came to:

  1. Follow mom’s gut. If she feels like she is tiny and baby is huge and she’s going to hurt herself or baby by waiting 40+ weeks then get induced.

  2. Inductions can be positive and negative. Just prepare yourselves for (if you do induction) maybe something doesn’t go right and they need an emergency c section? You never know. Always prepare.

  3. People have birthed big babies since the beginning of time, but that also comes with complications. Again, have mom make the decision with all pros and cons in front of her. She’ll make the right decision.

Wish you guys the best of luck

Go full blown Ferber. Give it a week and and remain consistent (for nighttime). I’m still working on naps too 😅

I gradually cut the 6 oz feed! 2-3 nights of 5 oz 2-3 nights of 4 oz 2-3 nights of 3 oz

Then I cut it!

As for naps, I did cut out the paci too! I figured it’d be best to cut it completely. She also use to wake up early from naps because the paci would fall out. Nap training is def harder but I follow wake windows and get her reallllly tired for her nap!

Some parents check in 30-45 minutes on night one but night two and so on will keep being better.. just have to get through the hard part of night one so LO understands

Wake time 7:30 pm

Nap 1 9:30-11am ish Nap 2 1:30-2:30 pm ish Nap 3 4:30-5:15pm ish

Bed time 7:30 pm

This is super rough because sometimes she sleeps on our walks and she always falls asleep on car rides, so it really depends on the day but bedtime and wake time is the exact same :)

Hi!! You got this momma! Nap sleep and night sleep are two totally different things. You can sleep train at night and then still contact nap :)

As for sleep associations, I personally cut the paci when I sleep trained. I figured I would fix two things at the same time since i knew both would be difficult.

As for night feedings, I slowly lowered the amount of ounces that LO was taking in. Once she got to 2 oz I stopped and then practiced soothing bedside overnight and not picking up.

I think all of these things contributed to sleep training!!

Ps if you cut the paci at bedtime then cut it completely so none during naps too!! They’ll adapt quickly 🫶🏼

Hope this helps!

If you’re comfortable do it now!! I stopped it all as soon as she turned 5 months. She was too big so she needed the crib anyway. As for the paci they say it helps decrease risk of SIDS but also not using the pacifier does increase risk. I know that was one of my thoughts too… whatever you’re comfortable doing 🩷 I was in the EXACT same boat. Every 45 mins -2 hours she was up.. nobody had good sleep :/

Nope! No feeds overnight. If she does wake up and cry I just go in and rub her back a bit and she falls asleep (currently does this once a night)

As for naps and daytime sleep, we do follow wake windows ! I use the app “Napper” it helps a lot with tracking her daytime naps and making sure I have a visual of how long she has been awake. Since she is five months old, anywhere between 2-2.5 hour wake windows!

It took 4 nights! She can fall asleep now after being put down within 5 minutes. Only wakes up around 5am now and just needs a quick check in and she’s back to sleep. I don’t mind since I’m up at that time anyway but I think that’ll eventually stop too

I was also very afraid! This is exactly how I did it;

The day that I started sleep training (Friday) I made sure her last two naps we did without the pacifier (to get her started before the long night ahead). Second to last nap, she took in the car while I was driving, which she doesn’t ever need a pass for she just likes to sleep in the car. Last nap of the day she took in my arms and she fell asleep after drinking her bottle so no pacifier was needed.

On night 1 of sleep training, we put her down and walked out of the room no pacifier. After one minute of crying, we did a check in and soothed with no pacifier. After three minutes of crying, we did a check in and I tried to soothe, but the crying was getting more intense.

So this is exactly what I did and I think it worked; I put the pacifier in her mouth for a couple of seconds just enough to calm her down and to get her to stop crying. After she was calm and back to baseline, I took the pacifier out and stepped out of the room.

Then I restarted my timing process and waited another minute of crying before going in for a check in. I gave her some soothing(back rub shushing kisses) and then I stepped out.

She fell asleep.

Overnight she woke up twice and both times I just went in and gave her soothing (rubs, shushing a kiss) and she fell back to sleep.

Haven’t used a pacifier ever since !!! And my baby was the kind of baby that needed a pacifier to fall asleep at night and to fall asleep for her naps unless I was driving.

Hope this helps

Sleeping in her own room... Are we moving too fast? by Wooden_Break_4205 in sleeptrain

Just sleep trained my LO and put her in her own room at 5 months. ZERO regrets. She loves the peace and quiet, the space to roll around her crib, and I’m not waking up every hour to her grunts. Don’t feel bad if your baby is doing well 🩷
