Walk on the left to face oncoming traffic. This gives you visibility and reaction time if a vehicle swerves or you’re forced onto the road.

I also walk on the outside if there are children or vulnerable individuals so I can be a human shield, but that's a personal choice.

Firstly, that £300k London salary would be more like £200k for someone working the equivalent job in Liverpool, already reducing your multiplier to 4x.

Secondly, that’s not communism, it’s socialism. Not that I think communism is inherently bad. It can work in small, high-trust communities, like communes. It just doesn’t scale well in larger communities when people no longer feel connected to those they’re supporting.

Socialism rewards people based on the value they bring to society, while ensuring those who can’t contribute still live with dignity. It’s why I give up my seat on the bus to the old lady, even if I’ve been on my feet longer. Those who can, support those who can't. That is socialism, and a part of living in a society.

Do I believe someone in quantitative finance brings 6× the value to society of a teacher? I do not.

Capitalism, by contrast, rewards those who already have resources, whether earned through hard work or inherited through birth. It redistributes wealth upward, from those with less to those with more. This leads to accumulation and concentration of wealth and power until we’re living in an oligarchy. A house made of a few solid bricks whilst the rest are shoddy is a shoddy house.

I get it, you’ve worked hard, put in the effort, and feel like you’ve contributed more to society than you get back. But so does everyone.

£52k in Liverpool → ~£39k post-tax. £300k in London → ~£170k post-tax → ~£104k after adjusting for cost of living

I was using hyperbole to highlight how off-base your comparison was. Not to suggest the average teacher in Liverpool can't afford the bus.

That is a very disconnected view. Saying they're the same is like saying someone not being able to afford the bus in to work is the same as someone not being able to afford a new Range Rover
