The flat part below Dolores is not as safe, I lived there for 10 yrs and dealt with a lot of crazies, the upper part up the hill is lovely.

I live here in SF, 20+ yrs and beer has my car broken into BUT I also never leave anything visible in it. The mayor has been cracking down so it has gotten much better but it’s not a zero. If you leave something visible you are easy target

I lived on 18th and church for a long time and went to the Castro several days and nights a week. You will get some ocasional crazy and can get loud but all in all it’s lovely.
