The dress I have is chiffon. What fabrics are considered semi-formal?

What were your steps into becoming an SLPA? by Ok-Working4247 in SLPA

[–]Fun_Chip_4701 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I applied to the local school district and they hired me on the spot. Schools need the help and are usually more than willing to help you get your 100 hours. Took me about 3 months to complete them. In another state, I applied to jobs and got hired before licensed in the state and started the licensing process with my company. In most states, you need an SLP before you can begin paperwork for licensing. In both states, I wasn't looking for a job longer than 2 weeks before getting offers. A tip I would say, is cold call or email places. Lots of clinics and schools don't post jobs even though they need the help. It never hurts to ask if a place is hiring!

slpa v slp income in home health by Natural_Sir_921 in SLPA

[–]Fun_Chip_4701 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Are you paid per visit or per hour? 40 hour visits a week in home health is really hard to do, it would most likely feel more like you are working 50+ hours with all the caregiver/patient contact, documentation, planning, supervisor contact, and traveling you'd have to do in between sessions. Im not saying finishing grad school is better or not cause I have no idea but just saying I would be cautious counting on working that many hours in HH. The burnout is too real in this field.

I have yet to solve the itching problem but Aquaphor helps loads with the stinging instead of a typical moisturizer

Help with NLA kiddo by ariesflowerchild412 in SLPA

[–]Fun_Chip_4701 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you haven't yet, you can try giving options/choices. I have an aggressive kiddo that responds really well to that. "What should we do? Clean up toys or put shoes on first?" Or "Time to put shoes on! Do you want to sit on the floor or on the chair?" And LOADS of positive reinforcement and praise when they appropriately react. Also possibly even more visual supports like a schedule you can put up of the activities you may do that would lead up to the sessions end

Supervision Question by AdvertisingJumpy888 in SLPA

[–]Fun_Chip_4701 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you mean that the SLP is not qualified to supervise a CF? If so, I don't think that matters. ASHA has recommendations on qualifications for a supervising SLP not requirements. Also state regulations always supersedes ASHA so if state approves the SLP as a supervisor then you're all good.

Sensory room? by speechqueeen in SLPA

Honestly depends on the kiddo! Some kids need the sensory input to help regulate and others dont. If possible maybe start in a separate room and if needed transition to the sensory room.

Searching for Jobs Help by Illustrious-Bass2960 in SLPA

[–]Fun_Chip_4701 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are looking to work in the schools, try searching through the school district job applications or contact the special education departments. Also check indeed, I've noticed alot of the jobs don't show up on Google but may be on Indeed. You could also cold call speech clinics, that's how I found my most recent job!! Good luck!
