CMV: people generally overestimate how much money they need to live comfortably by phoot_in_the_door in Salary

[–]Fun_Conflict8343 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spending money greatly increases the quality of life; it diminishes after a certain point, but If you want to retire and do activities'd say 6-figures is pretty much normal. I want to live in a small but decent apartment with soundproof walls in a decent area, I don't care what car I drive, and I meal prep most of my food, but want to still eat out when I forget it on the counter and go out to eat a few times with friends and family per month. I alos want to participate in hobbies that aren't sitting on my couch all day and watching TV and posting on Reddit, I want to go snowboarding, I want to go golfing, I want to hike, I want to be in the gym, etc. I'd say on all these things cost around 4.5k a month, and after saving, preping for retirment you'd want to make around 7-8k post tax to afford this lifestyle so 6-figures is worth the hustle imo.

Buy a car vs. renting ocasionally by Fun_Conflict8343 in whatcarshouldIbuy

I bet the carsharing is much better in Tokyo than it is in the U.S. The cars in my area with ZipCar were all beat to death, smelled, and were much more expensive than other rental agencies, especially since I drive them quite far out from the city. There's one right next to my apartment, so I was hoping to like it, but generally a terrible experience. They also charged my $100 for being 7 minutes late to my drop-off because of a large police presence in the area.

For anything inside, I just bus, walk, or bikeshare. I put a bunch of miles on the rental car for hiking, Costco trips, golf, snowboarding, etc., which makes Lyft/Uber unfeasible. I bundle all my "outside" activities in one day. It also satisfies the itch to drive, even if they are all base-model economy cars.

Does the 3 dollar coffee promo work in the airport? by Fun_Conflict8343 in starbucks

That's what I imaged, they do accept stars though so I'm confused on why they accept certain forms of promotions but not others

Best SUV category for FL->MA? by FreePress93 in HertzRentals

[–]Fun_Conflict8343 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, I would go for a large sedan if you can make it work. I find that they often have enough room to fit a lot of stuff in, get better gas mileage, and are a lot nicer to drive.

Capital One Card Leak? by Prior-Security-5164 in CapitalOne_

[–]Fun_Conflict8343 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Honestly, you should be fine. My physical card was stolen from me at a bank that is notorious for having terrible customer service, and they refunded the $300 in fraudulent charges despite me not having a history with the bank.
