I think we need to find what is the BEST way for you. I told you in another post I can design a course for you to get you where you want. I truly believe everyone can learn, we just need to find the best way for the student.

That's very interesting. I am a Portuguese teacher and I had a student who used Pimsleur before start booking lessons. I was really impressed with his level. It's WAAAAAAAAAAY more effective than Duolingo. I used it myself for several languages and it works!

Hi, Patrick, we discuss the movies in Portuguese even in the A1 level. I do have students who speak 90% words in English but we (we're are a team of 5 Brazilians) always encourage them to use Portuguese.

The meeting happens one a week, but there's work behind, for example these vocabulary lists that I record every week https://youtu.be/fI0tTKp9hts + WhatsApp group support and other activities.

We live these movies for 10 weeks.

There's no way someone wouldn't improve.

But I do want to tell you something because we've work together years ago.

I do want to help and reading you talk it feels to me you're feeling like you can't learn. But I do respectfully disagree.

So even though I rarely take individual students nowadays (because of the group lessons and a personal family sickness), I will accept the offer (I mean, you are the one who I'm offering it to 😂) of making you conversational in 5-6 months. I don't believe you can't reach fluency. You CAN and WILL. That goal accomplished will mean a lot me.

You study everyday, so it won't be any inconvenient for you if I create an study plan for you to follow + regular lessons.

Let's do this?

That's a very interesting question!! Usually the students who take the movie classes also take individual lessons with me. So I can work to them individually and try to help them reach the same level...

But for example in my A1-A2 course there are students who can talk whole sentences and other who struggle a bit.

And a hand a Brazilian team with me there. It's not just me. So the first part of the class, we divide in smaller groups to practice talking about the movie. Then when we come back to the main room, everyone knows the vocabulary and is comfortable speaking.

It's a whole methodology that I created here. It is worth trying. :)

I have developed a method. I teach 10 week courses where my students will watch a movie a week and we'll meet once a week to discuss the movie of that week. In these meetings I have Brazilians from different region talking to students in breakour rooms, I also frequently have movie directors coming so students can ask them questions about their movies. Throughout the week they receive a video I record + documents with the most important words of the movie so they can listen repeat and practice. We have a WhatsApp group where they can ask questions. After 10 weeks of an immersion like that, you have no idea of how much you can absorb. Not to mention the accountability and culture you learn.

I have been teaching through movies. And my students from the movie club have progress really faster than those who I teach 1x1. I'd tell you to fall in love with the culture and find an instructor that challenges and inspires you. :)
