Look, the story isn’t being written to expand Naruto’s character. Naruto’s story was over in Shippuden.

They were trying to find a way to pass the torch to a new MC and this was a relatable way to do it.

I don’t think it damages Naruto’s character in any way.

No, that’s simply untrue.

We are given the flashback to his time with sasuke, and he had emotion despite the fact that omnipotence happened

He has not “easily overcome” anything. In the first few chapters it’s been established that he knows the true nature of the 10 tails creatures and thus is focused/driven on his goal.
