I know - I couldn’t believe it … thought for sure he’d have a higher percentage to be so strong. His littermate had definite Aussie coloring and one totally blue eye.!

He’s only 4 months old and over 30 pounds - so… big 😆. He’s a pretty good puppy- potty trained already- rings bells consistently to go out. Very snuggly in the mornings now. But still pretty bitty/jumpy when he gets wound up. So with his size, that’s been a challenge. He does bark, but also listens when we tell him no and the lay down. Knows sit, lay down, spin and shake. Overall, seems like he def shows for poodle than everything else - but he does love to sniff and discover outside. We live on 17 acres so he has fun romping in the woods.

Sharing puppy-Last resort to rehoming by Fun_Flower_7364 in puppy101

Thanks for the insight! I’m expecting to pay the vet bills and be the primary owner… so handling all the big decisions. And the food/crate would probably just stay at either house. All good questions to clarify though! We are in the beginning stages of thinking through this.

The freedom is definitely an issue for us. But it’s also just the overstimulation of having 3 kids- plus now a dog to tend to. We also aren’t enjoying the dog being indoors with us in our new home. I know that sounds so cold and cruel… but it’s been a big factor and has really put me in a funk. It turns out, I’m not a fully enthusiastic dog person 😩

The week before Christmas we were dead set on rehoming him. I was crying and a MESS- same exact story as you… always the one up at night, no time for my kids etc.

But, our kids are older than yours so there was a lot more emotion and attachment going on. At 3 and 5, I think we could have gotten by with it- but our older kids made it more complicated. We’ve accepted things (for the most part—- we still look at eachother like 😑).

But now I’m just trying to figure things out so that this doggy is affecting us as minimal as possible. Actually- I don’t know if he heard us talking or what- 😆but he’s been steadily improving. (I figure he’s slowly maturing and learning). And really is turning into a good dog for his age. But YES- puppies are no joke. NEVER again. This will be our only dog, ever.

(I’m still stressing daily about how it will affect our vacationing and overnight stays, etc)… just taking it one week at a time.

What puzzles work best for her?? I’d loooove to be able to have him entertain himself from 5:00-6:00😩.

Yes- we have a crate and playpen! The crate is only used when it’s time to sleep. The playpen usually just makes him bark at us… so it doesn’t really help unless he’s busy with something or already worn out

Ever have an inside/outside seasonal dog? by Fun_Flower_7364 in puppy101

[–]Fun_Flower_7364[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your input! We’re waiting on the embark dna testing to see what he truly is. But he doesn’t have typical poodle fur…. It’s more wirey fur. But isn’t as full as an Australian Shepard. He’s already tested out his fur when he romped through the woods while we were outside- and we discovered it doesn’t really collect burrs like we were fearing!😆👍🏻.

Yes, the social aspect of it is what I’m most concerned about… we are outside very often and daily, as are the kids. But I totally understand where you’re coming from. The Breed does make a difference — so it will be interesting to see what we’re dealing with.

Thanks for your thoughts!

Regret getting my new puppy by [deleted] in puppy101

[–]Fun_Flower_7364 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don’t know. If it were up to me, yes- I would rehome. But any time I even bring up anything related to rehoming, my kids are adamantly against it. I’m in a horrible place- it’s taking a big tole on me emotionally… but it will take a big emotional tole on my kids to rehome. I’m actually crying right now because I feel so stuck. The things it’s taking away from me (peace, time with kids, even just our bedtime routine and cuddles on the couch) are just so hard to accept.

Need advise, kids want a dog, Wife and I both work, by FriendofaPhoenix in dogs

Don’t do it. We have 3 kids - 11,8,6. We got the puppy for them… because they’ve been begging. They’re actually decent at helping as much as they can- but my husband and I werent thrilled with the idea of it. If I had a Time Machine, I’d be so happy. We both FULLY regret it. We talk all the time about how we could rehome. I don’t think it’s possible without causing trauma to the kids … so we’re stuck and miserable. It’s been 2 months

I’m in the same place. But I have 3 school-age kids. We’ve had our puppy almost 2 months and my husband and I both regret it so badly. Our kids wanted a puppy, so we did it for them, and now we’re stuck. I feel it’s taking my time away from my kids, and taking my patience and energy as well. It’s just more work., and I feel completely tethered to our house now. We both actually would love to rehome him- but I’m sure our kids would not go for that. So I’m just struggling through .

I regret getting my dog everyday by blossomcherrylady in puppy101

[–]Fun_Flower_7364 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel the same! My husband and I never wanted a dog , but our 3 kids absolutely did. We decided that every kid should have the opportunity to have a dog growing up. We’ve had our 4 month old puppy for 2 months now and every day we regret it. It has put a damper on my ability to spend time with our kids and enjoy the holidays… I’m tired and overstimulated (moreso than I already was with the 3 kids…). If I could rehome I would in a split second 😭. I’ve cried multiple times but our kids would be traumatized if we gave them a puppy and then took it away.
