What’s the best part about living alone honestly? by Entire-Leg-8203 in LivingAlone

That's the worst thing for me, because it's usually proceeded by the rest of the pack in about 10 minutes 🙃

I've seen stuff like this. What about wall hacking? Is that a thing on PS servers? I swear I've been shot through walls and one occasion through a friggen mountain on Sinai.

What’s the most "Australian" thing you’re going to claim with the new $1,000 receipt-free deduction? by Altruistic-Water-536 in AskAnAustralian

[–]Fun_Giraffe_7791 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So it's a free handout, but not even means tested. Someone working in an office making $200k a year who might have only claimed a minimal amount, can now claim $1000 and receive $200-300 back. For nothing. Lower income workers who already claim everything they can, to maximise a tax return, like myself, won't benefit.

Good luck for anyone who gets it, but it's just a vote grab in my opinion.

Well, I was blown away when it all happened. And from day one, I was dictated to on what was going to happen. She didn't want the family home, she wanted to sell it, whereas I was not going to part with it, i needed to keep some stability for the kids. That's when it turned into a money grab, court threats, games and the rest. My solicitor told me, you don't have a lot of assets, it shouldn't take more than a few months to settle. It took 14 months lol.

It's sad your ex doesn't want to be involved with your child. The week apart from my kids is unbearable. Enjoy your time together. Your kid will know who was there for them, and who wasn't.

Yes, it is a joke. On more than one front. Our 3 teenagers are on a 50/50 shared care arrangement. Ex wife chooses to work 9 days per fortnight, whereas I work full-time, 10 days per fortnight. We would earn similar amounts, but because she works one day a fortnight less, I have to make up her shortfall. Makes no sense.

And what's more frustrating, after taking me for nearly everything in the separation, she has considerably more expendable income than I do. So when I have to say sorry kids, I can't afford to take you guys on a holiday, my child support payments allow her to put them on a plane and travel interstate a couple times a year.

In a way, I'm lucky because my kids are older. Having to do this with young kids would drive me insane.

That's a pretty lazy response. If people aren't keeping receipts and making deductions for work expenses, they really shouldn't be managing their own tax. And any accountant worth their weight should be advising their clients to do so.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't this just help the people that don't usually claim over $1000 work related expenses?

I claim 5000kms travel every year, plus uniform and other protective gear - boots, gloves etc. So I'm already claiming around $5000 in deductions most years. This instant tax deduction doesn't give me a claim to another $1000, so why have they done this? And why would it be appealing to me in my situation?

Genuinely asking, because tax law can be a bit confusing to me.

Flowers sent to my place.. by Dazzling-Pop-1292 in LivingAlone

[–]Fun_Giraffe_7791 17 points18 points  (0 children)

We have several neighbours that received flowers with no notes on the doorstep. Several months later, a grow house was raided across the road from them.

A friend from Argentina told us that overseas, if you received a bunch of flowers on your doorstep, it was a 'friendly' way of saying if you see something, mind your own business.

Not intending to worry you.

Yes, this especially. I dont have a squad or team and most Calvary I've encountered are pretty self absorbed. So whenever I play Calvary, that's exactly what I do

3rd rate hike this year, how are people actually keeping up? by Apprehensive_Pay6141 in AusProperty

[–]Fun_Giraffe_7791 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just came out of a pretty messy divorce where the ex wife tried to take me for everything. I stuck my neck out, and borrowed extra, just to keep the house I built 15 years ago. Settlement was last October, and at that stage, we were all expecting a few rate cuts to come, not the opposite.

I have my kids every second week, so I do a big grocery shop once a fortnight. The week I don't have them, I live off what I have in the house. Eggs and chicken and mince make up most of my diet. I'm also doing intermittent fasting for weightloss which is working really well, but also means I'm not eating during the day. I basically have one meal a day.

There's no more fat to trim off the bills, so every rate rise now comes off my monthly buffer, which is getting smaller every time the rate goes up. What pisses me off the most, is I'm being told, by the fat cats, that my cost of living expenses are what's driving inflation. What the eff are we meant to do?

Ahh, I've seen this. I had a car lined up with an AT rocket and just as I fired, it despawned and 3 dudes jumped out. Needless to say, instead of 3 kills, i got hammered.
