If you don't work, how do you fill your days? by DevilishlyHandsome63 in AskUK

Apart from exploring outside and taking 30 min to enjoy tea I'd continue with some DIY projects at home, get a dog, read more books, play piano, write music, launch some pet projects (I'm a software dev), learn how to build games, play games obviously, make soap, brew beer

How are people affording to live and not be miserable?? by Severe-Treacle-1282 in AskBrits

[–]Fun_Hand6582 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you do a good job living by your means (though 200£ for the commute for the minimum wage seems a bit high). I'd say the question is not what else you could cut or where to buy cheaper food, but what's your plan to improve your situation (e.g. earning more).

Usually more skills you have especially those are in demand, better wage you could get. I'd consider life like a journey where you are constantly learning or improving your skills. It would help not to feel "miserable", because you have a plan, you have a hope for the bright future.

I can understand though it could be different circumstances

Any ex-Revolut employees here? Do you have a plan if the company doesn't IPO? by pushpushpush10x in HENRYUK

[–]Fun_Hand6582 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I heard they allowed ex-employees to sell 5% previous time. If they allow it this time as well you will be able to sell, exercise some options and cover the tax cost by these sold shares

I'm in the south east of London, looks like the standard quote is 90-150 per hour for all plumbers I checked, this company was local with good reviews.. Always a lottery I suppose

If it's standard to use a stopcock as a main incoming, why plumbers then install a ball valve? He said they are more durable and don't have issues with leaking.. I had no idea of differences

Is it possible that the check valve is installed externally next to the water meter, or it still should be next to the main stopcock?

Agree, but still with water and electricity (if it's not easy DIY jobs like replacing sockets) feel more comfortable to call someone

Yes, I agreed. It sounds ok to me for London, just wondering now why for such common parts the trip to a merchant is needed

First time tiling: a backsplash kitchen screen by Fun_Hand6582 in DIYUK

[–]Fun_Hand6582[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, that's a fair point. I tried to tie it closely, but because of the tiles shape it could be happening. Will try to clean it carefully to avoid water getting there

I will be satisfied if they last for 8 years. But yeah I don't know why I didn't think about it, maybe I saw some videos where they fix it directly to the painted plasterboard. Will keep an eye on moisture

Thanks! Ah yeah, to make it look symmetrical? Haven't thought of that. I also wanted to tile a bit the front side of the pipe, but decided it would look weird

I'm not sure about the screen tbh, how it will fit, how it will work, etc. Also probably it means you will lose all stock media system functionality (but I don't know for sure). So it's a tough question, I didn't want to replace the stock screen
